    Brake lights flashers and park safety issues

    i thought I would try this section to continue my troubleshooting as I'm still struggling.

    Symptoms:
    Brake lights and blinkers not functional, flasher blows fuse #22 after a few cycles, park safety switch will not unlock after starting car. Side marker lights still work with blinker switch, headlights and wipers all fine.

    What I have tried:
    New brake light switch, did not change connector. Tested multi function switch on steering column which tests out fine following procedure posted on pantherbb forum. Wiring to the connectors on MFS are grounded out. All but three are giving tone to ground on steering column.

    What would you recommend to find the short to ground? I'm ready to throw in the towel and bring it to the dealer but I hate the idea of them ripping into my wiring harness all over the car not ever knowing what could be "affected" down the road.

    Remove all the turn signal / brake light bulbs. Install one at a time and test.

    You only need to replace the connector if it's bad.

    Great idea.. Thanks. I was wondering if it could be a bulb.

    I'm thinking if it is a bulb then it must be one on the flasher circuit. And if I take that one step further it should be one on the brake light circuit, since my trouble began blowing the fuse upon pressing the brake pedal. Does that make sense?

    Greg, sorry I've been out of touch...work sucks.

    Removing the 12-pin connector cleared the feed to the right rear brake/hazard lamps. The 10-pin connector provides power to the other three corners. If you unplug that and the fuse still blows when you step on the brake, then the problem is most likely in the stoplight switch circuit.

    All the circuits will appear to be "grounded" at the MFS connectors as you will reading through the bulbs to ground. I think at this point, trying fastblackmerc's advice is your best bet to narrow down which circuit is faulted then we can proceed from there.

    There has also been a problem with the wiring harness at the left front of the car near the air compressor and headlights that may be chaffed.
