    Marauder overheating

I have 154,500 miles on my car. Car runs great. After about 100,000 miles, I started to flush the gold radiator fluid every three years at a Ford stealership. So today, I went to the stealership for my flush. I made sure to remind them that the car has to be burped and which they said they did. Car was fine when I took it in but they said that there was a blockage or bad thermostat when they finished. They looked it over and said it was a bad thermostat. They could get an aftermarket one by end of day but they would have to keep the car over the weekend since they are closing.

Several years ago, I bought a Motorad 7265-180 Failsafe Thermostat on Amazon. So I had them put this in the car.

They ran it for 30 minutes and said it was fine.

However, on the highway on the way home, the car started to overheat and get close to the red. I didn't want to take a chance of it getting in the red, so I pulled over and shut the car down. Called a tow truck.

Anyone have problems with these thermostats before? I'm going to order a Motorcraft one and limp the car to another stealership.

By the way, I saw another Marauder drive buy. A black one on the highway. I-580 heading west. Time was about 3:30.

May still need additional burping. I've heard that the thermostat can be placed in upside down thus making it not work or something like that

As mentioned they could have installed the stat the wrong way or still needs to be burped.

I had the flush done at this same stealership three years ago. He said they know how to burp it.

When they did the flush today they said that there was no heat in the lower coolant hose. That is when they first said that maybe the original t-stat was bad or there was a blockage. Then they said it was the T-stat. When they put the Motorad one in they said there was some heat felt in the lower hose. Obviously something still isn't right. They must have put it in backwards or not burped it enough as you all suggest. I'll go to the closer stealership and have them take a look at it next weekend. I'll bring a new Motorcraft T-stat from ebay in case its needed. It should arrive by then.

If your MM was working fine before you took it in and it wasn't working fine when you left they probably don't know what they are doing regardless of what the service manager says. Taking it to a different place is probably the best way to go.

I tried to google the burping process but got some articles and youtube videos about doing it for Grand Marquis but no mention of the burping process (I don't think they have the same crossover tube setup). Anyone have a good link handy to share on the process?

I got an email back from the service manager. They say that the T-stat only goes in one way. Uh, I think they are wrong. Supposed to go in one way correctly but apparently there are some that will fit both ways by mistake, right?

tstat goes in upside down, then install the gasket, then attach the lower hose. Also the Motorad 7265-180 is not the correct t-stat. It does not have the thermal bypass. Holes in center shaft. Get the motorcraft unit.

Motorad 7265-180 is their failsafe t stat..they dont offer a 180 for Marauder only 195 so it is a mach 1/cobra one for the 180..the 195 failsafe is 7265-195. so maybe the failsafe version is not right to use? however they offer it in the 195 for maraduer

Spend the coin and get a Reisch Performance 170 degree stat.

Which is not the correct tstat either. NONE of the Motorad units are.
