Is there anywhere on the site with a good write-up on the cooling mod...with pics? I've never really messed with these mod motors much and would like some guidance and I learn better with pics. I tried searching but all I came up with were a bunch of people arguing about whether it's necessary or not...

IMHO. It's not needed unless you are boosted or really running the car hard. 103k with 0 issues without one,. I know some swear by it even on a stock car.
It's insanely easy. Search svtperformance. I have one on our 03 cobra and have installed several for friends.
