I am biased. I drove an ‘11 3.5 for about a year, then moved up to a brand new ‘15 3.5 lariat CC in April of 16. Absolutely wonderful truck. Sport mode is stupid fast .... i average ~16 in my day to day. This includes towing, 4wd, ko2’s on each corner, grill guard with winch ... you get the picture. On bighway trips with 5 folks in it, i average really close to 20.

Currently have 61k miles on mine since April ‘16. A tsb replaces a 4wd actuator in the front and the transfer case.

The 2018 F150 smaller Ecoboost motors are blowing up quite often according to my local Ford dude.

Just get the 5.0 liter, I really like mine. Gets 18/22 mpg and will pull a skyscraper off its foundation.

With all the recent work to your Ranger, why have you decided to replace it?

It's going to need more repairs... rear brakes, rear axle seals, motor uses 2 qts. between changes (should be rebuilt) and all four ball joints need replacing since the dust boots are not there.

I just traded a 2014 Ram 5.7 Hemi for a 2018 F150 4x4 Super Crew with the 5.0 and 10 speed. It is the most comfortable truck I have ever owned. My advise is to consider the 2018 3.3 for your daily driver. If you don't tow anything then the 3.5 EcoBoost is overkill in the power department. The 3.5 EcoBoost's fuel mileage is not great either, but they are a proven and reliable engine.

We had one in the shop a few weeks ago (I work at a Ford dealership) that had 196,000 miles on it and it was there for a coolant leak at one of the turbos. The turbos were fine and did not require replacement, just some of the plumbing. This is a testament to proper maintenance.

I also previously leased a 2013 Lariat with the 3.5 EcoBoost. In 48,000 miles there was not one trip to the service department. Either of your choices would be a great pick, but the 2018 is a much improved model. Keep us posted on what you buy.

    What engine....2.3, 3.sl0w or the 4.0?
I just redid all the brakes on my '99 Ranger and also fixed the leaking differential cover.
I thought about doing the rear axle seals & bearings....but then I thought; 'If it aint broke, don't fix it'!
Just did the lower ball joints last year, now the upper ball joints are starting to go....It never ends!

My Ranger has 309,000+ miles and the engine is starting to use some oil.
Transmission is getting sloppy too. A/C is starting to cycle on and off.
Rather than spending a lot of money repairing a bunch of worn out parts, I spent $1,000 and got an entire 91,500 mile 3.0 V6 drivetrain from a NJ salvage yard.
Even got all the 'low mile' front dress/accessories, starter, exhaust manifolds and a custom driveshaft!
Now, I'm trying to break something before I drop in the 'new' engine.
Can't seem to kill this old engine and tranny!!

Also got a mint tailgate (in matching white color!) off of the same wrecked Ranger for $50
Tailgate is wrapped in tarp next to the engine.
It's going to be like a 'kinda new' truck after I do the install.
    Straight 'plug and play' swap...easy.
Saved me $40,000+ vs. buying a new 2018 F150 STX.

That's all minor stuff, a heck of a lot cheaper than $30k!

You can get a new 5.3 liter Silverado with locking diff for $27,000 or so....I like that better any used truck for $30K. Question is, will you be happy with a base model V-8 shortbed as a DD?

I'd prefer to stay in the Ford family. I also want either a crew cab or super cab (rear seating).

    HIDEOUS!.....

Chevy seems to think that the Transformers are still a cool thing, and that their pickups should look like Maximus Prime.
I'd call the new look; Hideous Crime.
