Starting issues car cranks but no start

Glad you got it figured out and had the car at home and not stranded somewhere. When mine died I just happened to be in the parking lot of a mechanic's shop as I had just followed my mom there to have her car looked at. I don't remember what they used for a new fuel pump, I just remember it was a $750 bill.

I'm lucky I can do it myself but I think it's going to be very unpleasant. I have a full tank of gas. Can a siphon hose pass down to this cars tank unimpeded or will I encounter some kind of restriction device?

There is a metal piece down the tube which will prevent you from getting a hose in the tank. The way to drain it is with an external pump in the line. If you don't get it down to about 5 gallons you are correct about it being an unpleasant job you'll be swimming in gas.
