    Blend door actuator needed.

Good grief this was just replaced 16 years ago!!!

Went out on a chilly morning three weeks and go and turned the temp to heat and CLICK CLICK CLICK.
Oh man I know that sound. I don't necessarily mind doing the job but I am not going that far into the dash to install aftermarket parts if I can avoid it.

Let me know if you have a Motorcraft YH-1766 you'd like to sell. OR... if you've personally used another brand with positive results.

    Thanks!

Suggestion : When you do new install make sure the metal post
the actuator installs on to rotates very freely.. Take a can of penetrating oil
with a tube nozzle and spray the shaft and make sure it seeps down.
Keep rotating back and forth until there is no resistance.
It happens quite frequently actuators are getting replaced and installed on to posts that dont turn freely
and guess what happens. Hope this helps.
PS last one I did was 4 years ago and it was OEM. Hope it out lasts me.

I did the EATC test and it was blend door. First one was done by Carfixer that I believe was a 45 minute affair in the driveway. Good call on using lube for the pivot areas.

Very curious ---when you replace it again do a post on the condition of the shaft. Was it stiff or loose?

Happy New Year everyone. I just got my actuator and had to settle for the Dorman. The first time one was done by pulling the dash away from the cowl by THE industry expert and I was there 'helping'. I might just do a writeup because I like having a detailed vehicle history. Plus maybe we can make this a more commonplace repair like HVAC O rings or LCM relays. If I remember, I believe the original replacement included notching the forward mounting ears to facilitate slipping them under the screws. I am counting on that exact procedure instantly voiding the lifetime warranty of the new replacement. The weather is nice in Florida now and that makes this a great job to do on a weekend.
Also because the blend door won't allow A/C to direct cold air either. This will definitely be a sooner rather than later job and while I am under the dash I'll do any wiring/plumbing for my Eaton swap. The interior accessories/mods, gauges and heat exchanger have already been meticulously installed. While my head's in there I can finalize anything not related to underhood mechanical.

Also, blackcar - I will see what you mean when I have my hands in there.

If you pull the dash out, you don't need to notch the ear. I'll be starting mine after my holiday travels. I think there already is a write up, but improvements are always nice.

Another trick --- I bought from Ali Express or one of those places a very long skinny wrench about 12 inches long. One end has a 8mm and the other 10mm-- It made life easier for loosening the screw in the rear of the actuator which is buried in the dash board.
Its a none ratcheting type so it will fit the very, very tight space. ------- You SUCK Ford for this idiotic unreliable system and design.
