We don't have lifters, we have followers. I'd check your oil level. Could also be a cracked exhaust manifold.

i think so but not totally sure....i have remote start and soon as i came outside i knew something was wrong...I only drove it 3 miles...it sounds like metal on metal and gets faster and a little louder as you accelerate....i'll check the oil later tonight...i just had it changed at the dealer a few weeks ago...its was embarrassing just to drive it this morning....sounds like a 15 year old tired motor

hows the oil pressure..spun bearing, cracked manifold or
popped spark plug-most likely.pull off spark plug covers
see if one of the plugs is really loose??!!
If this is the problem insist on the cylinder head being replaced.
other issues can occur if the cylinder head is only repaired..

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

What used to be called a rocker arm on a pushrod engine is now called a follower, and they can snap off, it at least out of place. You wouldn't notice much of a performance hit, 'cause the second valve is working, but it could be bouncing around in there.

What used to be called a hydraulic lifter, is now called a valve lash adjuster, and the operate just like the pushrod lifters. Spring loaded and operated by engine oil, but they are pretty tough. Collapsing one on a stock engine would surprise me very much.

I just hit how loud the fuel injectors are on mine cause I can't tell if its the valves tapping or the FI's still being loud. I did the old method of a long flat tipped screwdriver and put it all over the heads and didn't hear much but when I put it on or right near the FI's thats when I heard noise and even my local mechanic said its the FI's.

Hope nothing is majorly wrong with you car, defenitley get it checked out asap.

If the tensioner is faulty, replacement should be the best and
only option..it should be considered a regular maintainence item.

Yeah, I replaced mine. There was nothing wrong with it. I figured I was going through withdrawl, having installed the supercharger myself and now I have nothing to work on. It saved me some time down the road - that's what I keep telling myself
