    Got P0171 and P0174 codes

Those are for Lean condition bank 1 and 2 Cleared the codes and they did not come back.

Quick search gives some causes, dirty MAF top listed

    http://www.aa1car.com/library/ford_lean_codes.htm

OK I have the tamper proof bits, and electrical cleaner so I go at it. Did not SEE any crud but sprayed it good.

Put it back together fired right up... Duh the MAF is not plugged in.. Plug it in and it stalls.

Fire back up no problems no light or codes.

Driving to Thanksgiving notice it's more responsive and idles smoother, shifts better..

This AM disconnect the battery for 10 min to purge out all the old data and fire it back up. Runs MUCH nicer now and no more wonky shifting. That MAF must have been dirty and caused the lean condition and other drivability Idle issues.

The part of the MAF that was causing your codes and driveability issues was the hot-wire sensor. It's very thin and not easy to see anything unless you use a magnifier. It may look clean to the naked eye, but it's not.

(I figure I'll beat Casey to it: "Uh-huh-huh...you said 'naked'..." )

Check the PCV tube where it goes into the intake manifold. I have heard of the same codes come up for a hole in the hose.
    (#6178 in black per FPIC)
Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

    Rest In Peace:

See my garage file for part numbers and whatnot.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

Any vac leaks can cause lean codes too. I had not done the sweep with the propane torch trick (not lit of course) but first inspection finds all the hoses looking good.
