    Thinking about getting Maruader

I currently have 1999 Crown Vic p71 that is starting to crap out on me. I already got approved for financing and im looking for a new car. I got the search narrowed down to three models a Mercury Marauder, Lincoln LS V8, and a Ford Fusion 4cyl stick with sport appearance package.

Well I found a nice Marauder that im going to make an offer on and had a few questions about the car. Ive been searching around in previous posts and could not come up with any definitive answers for some of my questions.

    1. I literally just bought brand new Michelien snow tires for the vic. Their size 225/60R/16. Will these fit on and work well on the marauder provided I get 16" rims? Ive seen in some posts that the tractions control may or may not work with this size, does anyone know from experience? If the traction control does not work and I have to turn it off will the abs still work?

    2. I know these are large cars but how is the gas mileage on these cars? I'm currently only getting 215 miles per a tank in my crown vic. I'm looking to do better than this and consider gas prices are currently high in the winter im really concerned about the summer. How many miles to a tank do you usually get in mixed driving?

Thanks for any and all help,

    -John

Miles to a tank is not a comparable measurement.

With the Marauder u will have to use premium.

Since you are looking for mileage buy the Fusion.

I can comment on the gas mileage, I have a little over a half a tank and can go 200 miles or a little more. I've never filled up.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the site. If you want a MM with no traction control, get a 2003 300a package. These are the early made ones.

Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

See my garage file for part numbers and whatnot.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

Seems like a no brainer. ^^^^ Most folks here don't agonize over MPGs. The MM is what it is ... a performance car that uses 91 octane minimum.

    +1....

Most of us didn't buy the Marauder for it gas mileage!

Most of us don't care what kind of mileage it gets!

I bet you'll get more smiles to the mile with the Marauder!

Seems like something is wrong with your Vic that you are only geting 210 miles on a tank! Either you drive with the gas pedal on the floor, or your O2 is shot, fuel lines, carbon build up, etc etc.....300A early models have no traction control, so the 16" package would work there.

If it's a stock marauder it should get up to 25 MPG highway around 14 city if you drive it normal. Gas tank size if I'm correct is 18.5 gallons but You must use Premium Gas. Their is a number of guys running 16 in snows in the winter month's up north, that shouldn't be a problem either. It's a great car in alot of ways.

I've driven a lot of CV's over the years. The Marauder gets better mileage than any of them ever did, but it does take premium. My '04 gets 16-18 in town and 20-22 on the highway. Depends on the wind and how far my foot is in it.

The LS is a fine automobile, too, but it is a helluvalot smaller than the MM--especially in the trunk and rear seat. No comment on your other choice.

Skip the LS. I have a friend that works at a Ford store and he says they are not a good car. He ought to know

If you want fuel mileage, buy the Fusion. If you want a large, comfortable, performance sedan, buy the MM. You're certainly not comparing apples and oranges here.

Your right about that! I'm pretty much dead set on a Marauder that is until I change my mind in five minutes. I'm about to make an offer on an 04 which sucks cause of the traction control. I'm going to see about returning the snows since I just bought them a week ago and didn't have them mounted yet.
