    Torque Converter

So in the next month or so I am throwing together a high compression N/A Coyote to be transplanted in the Merc. But Im still questioning what kind of torque converter I should use.I was thinking of going with either a 4000 or a 5000 stall. Just trying to get more opinions before I pull the trigger.

I would call circle D converters and find out what everyone else with your goals is running.

    I assume 4r75 trans too?

Oh heck, consult with MartyO. Thinking I would be leaning towards a 6r80 with the coyote motor. Love my Circle D 3k stall with my mildly modded stock motor and transmission - your results may vary! Marty-Jeff-Eric nailed it down perfectly. Great fuel mileage at the moment while being used as a daily driver - about to park Marauder as Mustang is coming up for daily driver rotation.

What stall does most of you use for your mid to higher HP/TQ cars?

I had a PI2800 triple that was really nice. Next one I get will be 3000.
You "feel" the difference because you want to "feel" the difference. Since you just spent money on the upgrade you "have" to feel the difference

I'm looking to eliminate the double pump process I have to follow right now to get the pedal hard

I have a super cheap Road Runner 3600 converter. I’ve only put a few thousand miles in it but it hasn’t broke yet and it’s a blast.

With the coming addition of a third pedal in my car I won’t be using it anymore however

Precision industries makes a great converter, I have a few of them in my buicks..
I have also ran JW makers of the wheel down in Florida and it's a great running efficient non lock up
I would contact Dusty Bradford for a high stall non locking converter as it is just as efficient as a lock up vert being locked. I believe he sells PTC and he is a truely great person to deal with

If you keep the VCT active there should be no need for an ultra high RPM stall converter since low end torque is controlled by cam timing....just saying!!

Good Luck...sounds like a FUN project!!
    No Marauder

I was talking with Circle D and he said that hed put in a 3800 4000 stall because that is what most of the 6R80 guys do. But that seems a little high to me , because if I'm not mistaken the FRPP control pak should still control the VCT.
I guess I will find out.

Dumb question, what happens if I install/have installed a higher than needed stall in the trans?

Some places allow for one stall change for either no or minimal cost. PI did or still does
