Condemned California Home With Holes In Roof, Mildew, Sells For $1.23 Million

Truly incredible. Who is buying this stuff?

A condemned home in Northern California — with holes in the roof and mildew inside — recently sold for $1.23 million, becoming the latest example of the Bay Area's tight housing market.

The home in Fremont was originally listed for $1 million but ended up closing at $230,000 over its asking price, listing agent Larry Gallegos told KTVU.

“We had a couple of offers that were very close. Actually, my client, when I first met them, wanted a little bit more than that with the price they had in their mind. But they ended up being happy with this one,” he said.

The home, located about 35 miles southeast of San Francisco, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and was condemned in 2013. The two investors who bought the property design green homes, according to Gallegos, and plan to put a 4,000 square-foot "masterpiece" on the lot in Fremont.

It's all relative I can get a $250k salary if I work in the Bay Area. Apartments are going from 3k-6.5k a month. A lot of people commute 1.5-2hrs the the central valley.

Wondering how the upcoming 4,000 sq ft. ‘masterpiece’ will fit in with the rest of the neighborhood? Saw a spanish stucco home built during the 1920s in a Jacksonville, FL historic neighborhood replaced with a $1.3m ‘spanish stucco’ home recently.

So much for the 'historic neighborhood’. Same stuff here in Charlotte, NC but we can’t wrap our heads around California Real Estate prices. There’s gotta be a ‘crash’ coming to CA prices at some point.

Jobs and high paying jobs keep inventory low so prices are going up. Most people commute to either the central valley or south of San Jose like Los Banos or Gilroy. Or you find a fixer upper and demo. Very common. I did the commute for 20 years I work in my home town for 2-3 days then commute the opposite direction albeit for alot less. Also almost move to North Carolina Raleigh/Durham area but housing crashed in 06.

    Just normal guys!

I could no longer afford to live in my own neighborhood, if I had to buy my house today.

30 year old kids are buying these $900,000 homes as the first homes, and spending $250,000 to remodel. Gotta be family money involved... Nuff said!
