Question License plate question for the Sarge...

Hey Sarge, with my Marauder getting here soon, I was wondering if it is leagal in Illinois to run around without a front license plate? I like the look of the front end without the bracket hanging there, and will ask the dealer not to install it if I can leagally get away with it. What say you Sarge?
    Thanks, Tim

I'm not the "MAC" but it is iilegal not to display your front plate in Illinois. That being said I had a Black" 85" dodge turbo Lancer that I removed the front plate on and never had a problem anywear.Untill my son got old enough to drive. His first trip to the mall with his friends got him a ticket in the parking lot of the mall.

You gotta display front plates in illinois [or do you pronounce it "tags").

You got to too in MO, but that doesn't mean we all do it. As long as it's visable (ie, behind the grille, skid-plate, etc...), most cops won't get ya for it not being "properly" attached.

I think you got the best of answers already, but let me hip you to something else.

Let's say your a cop in a quiet community, with 3 maybe 4 years on the streets. The community next door, isn't as peaceful, and you have had a lot of fun dealing with the spillover. One day, you see a clean skeek black car heading out of that cesspool, and onto your beat. You notice it has no front plate, and as it passes you, it has Illinois tags, which means the front plate is missing. You run the plate, state says one of the two has been reported missing, and you wonder which plate you've seen, the owner's, or the lost plate?

You take the car down, and come to make the pinch of your life. Guns drugs, cash, Mick Jager held hostage, threats against the President, maybe even a suspect on the Anthrax mail...pinch of a lifetime.

After the attention settles and your lawyer negotiates your film deal, you're back on your beat, and you got a rookie with you. While you're telling stories and teaching the kid his new ropes, out from the cesspool, comes a clean, sleek, black, car with no front plate...

    Need I continue the story?

I like the look of no front plate too. OTOH, when I'm out on the street, I'm doing something, or going somewhere, and I'm usually on a schedule of some sort. Who has the spare time in their life to get stopped and chat?

    IMHO...

I've alwauys wondered why some States do not require a front plate.
then there are those cars that by their design have absolutely no provision for one. What's up with that?

Kind of scary, when thinking of the scale. Makes one think that maybe it'd be a good idea to do some introspection and think about what each of us needs to do to build a solid community, analyze what it is we're all honestly looking for by belonging to this community.

If you don't have the front plate on your car may never get stopped in Illinois, but it does give a police officer the right to stop you. Did you also know you can't hang anything from your rear view mirror???

And like the SergntMac says who has the spare time chat.

Typical of Massachusetts, you can have it both ways in this state. If you have the older green letter/number plates you only have to display the rear Plate. Its all they gave you back then in a cost saving measure. The newer red letter/number plates require you to display both front and rear. I'm lucky enough to still have a green plate which leaves the front bumper of my Marauder unmolested.
