    Ford Explorer Sport

I'm thinking about a used 2016 or 2017 Ford Explorer Sport. This model comes standard with the 3.5 twin turbo V6. The horse power is 365 and the torque is 350 ft lbs. The brochure says these numbers are achieved using 93 octane fuel. Anyone have an ecoboost engine and can give me some feedback on how it runs on 87 octane fuel? Thanks, Curt

I have the 3.5 ecoboost in my 2018 F150 and it runs on 87 octane. That is what the manual says to use. As far as an EXploder I cannot say.

    Sorry, I've only run 93 octane in my Fusion Sport's TT2.7L V6.
Supposedly can run on 87 octane (resulting in slightly lower power numbers)

My guess is it will run properly on 87. Higher octanes and E0 will probably help performance and fuel economy, but at what price? Read where this motor has received over 10 calibration updates since 2011 so I would check to see if it has the latest one.

Someone has probably dyno'd an Ecoboost engine on both octanes to see what the difference is in the respective power outputs.

I have a 2012 EcoBoost and although with only 20200 miles I have not experienced any referenced problems as yet and it has only had 87 octane. However it is appreciated to know the information referred
above^^^^ and I have filed it for future ref if needed--again much appreciated as I was unaware.

I would ask Jeff from Martyo's shop --he is likely to have some knowledge on this I feel sure.
