Paxton 1200 Daily Driver "4.10s/3500"vs"3.55s/3500" vs "4.10s stock converter"

I know the 4.10s discussion has been beaten to death here, but I would like to here from someone with a similar setup (centri).

Car is an 04 MM, Paxton 1200, cobra MMR 600 shortblock @9.5:1, headers with basically stock exhasut, stock 4r75w/converter, musclemerc LCAs.... Will be daily driven. I have a pretty simpe/easy (traffic aint bad) 18-20 mile commute, and run 70-85 for a good portion of it (even in rush hour).

I've got a Thunderbird SC (3.8 v6) with an aftermarket version of the Eaton M90 and other bolt-ons; that setup with the stock 3.27s had plenty of low-end grunt. I had a set of 3.73s that never actually made it into the car, due to my fear of high revs and mileage. But was satisfied with the low end.

But now with the MM and the centri, and feel like I'm missing out in the bottom end. This thing doesn't hardly even spin the tires from a dead stop, granted they are brand new tires and seem like the softest/grippiest tires I've ever owned...

Another factor is likely the lack of boost due to larger pulley. I had the car dyno-tuned at Reinhart's last Sunday and he said I needed a smaller pulley.

Car maxed just over at 8# boost in the 6K neighborhood on the dyno.

If I stab the throttle from normal speeds, the guage gets to 5, maybe 6 in the middle of the RPM range.

So I do need to measure the exact SC pulley and probably step down a size or two. Reinhart said he gave me a conservative enough tune that I could go down a size or two and be OK. I do have a wideband setup that will go on it prior to pulley change, so I'll be able to datalog and verify eveythig is safe after any mods.

    So looking for inputs please:
    3.55s with Stock coverter
    3.55s with 3500 stall
    4.10s with stock covnerter
    4.10s with 3500 stall

Also which order would you recommend I change theese in? 4.10s first or converter first?

The tranny/TC is stock, so I'm also considering pulling it to have the converter built/replaced (PTC is local to me and I've had good luck with their converters in the past), if I pull the tranny, it will be built to "Js" bulletproff 4r70w specs.

No signs of tranny issues yet, but I'm not pulling it without rebuilding it.

So wondering if I need both 4.10s and 3500 TC, which I should do first.

    Thanks guys!

I had a chance to ride in Scott's Vortech'd car that has 4.10's and I believe a higher stall converter. It drove like a boss. I was impressed.

Not sure if I'm going to be of any help but I have 4.10's and stock converter. More boost as well, but I can mash the throttle maybe 1/2 way and it will spin the tires fairly easy. Factory BFG's. Since it was tuned I haven't been passed 1/2 throttle period.

How much boost are you reading?

Bout how much from an initial stab of the throttle at mid RPM?

Then how much if you get up in RPMs?

    Thanks!

Paxton 1200 Daily Driver "4.10s/3500"vs"3.55s/3500" vs "4.10s stock converter"

When it was tuned he said it was headed past 12 psi. I've only seen 5-6 psi tops myself. I will be able to give more info when I swap to the 4.0 pulley.

They will make more then 5-6 psi as you go up in the RPM's, thats why Paxton is good mid to top end.

It will definitely make more, but that's all I've been willing or want to see. I'm running a D1 Procharger

4:10's and a 4K converter is the ticket for that combo.

    If you had a D1 or T-Trim a 3500 would suffice.

Yup. 4:10s and 3500 stall or greater is the way to go.

I had that setup... still do, when I had a Procharger with 16psi as a daily driver. It was a TON of fun.

Get a a good stacked plate trans cooler, and a JMOD done to your valve body for the transmission no matter what you pick. Perhaps a +2qt trans pan. Those will help your trans a lot. I use a Scanguage II to monitor trans temps.

Sounds like a quick setup you've got going, good luck with it.

    Thanks!

Got the j-mod already, I gots me one of those new fangled iTSX bluetooth devices that I can datalog on my phone/ipad, as well as load tunes and such.

Reinhart made me a deal on it

I hear ya on the trans cooler and pan. Probably ought to do those first. I wish the deep AOD pan fit, I got one of those laying around.

This is the car I just bought from MMBLUE here, looks like he took real good care of her.

I drove my 03 vic for 8 years, hope I can keep up with the MM longer!

No need for a deep pan. Just get a real good trans cooler.

I wish you luck with the car and know that it went to a great home. You'll be able to take it to the next level. I preferred the highway cruiser aspect of the set up that is in there. It is real safe for sure.
