    JFlave's Upgrades

Well the end of last season we found that John's IC wasn't up to cooling 20 something pounds of boost. So we picked up a Treadstone 6" thick Intercooler and built some aluminum IC tubes instead of the steel ones.

With the old IC it would pick up 70* iat in a 10.5 second quarter mile pass and it would pull a bunch of timing getting to 180*. With the new IC we are seeing a 30* increase and also seeing 3 more pounds of boost. The new IC weighs about 20lbs more than the old IC, but going to the aluminum tubes we only gained about 7 lbs total. Lost 4lbs per tube. Got the IC tucked up just behind the bumper.

Had to use 2 vortech blow of valves before to keep the boost from backing up when the throttle was cut. Now we went with a single Tial valve in purple of coarse. Not that you can see it.

Neither were the radials holding the track under the more instant boost the Circle D converter brought on. So John picked up a set of Race Star wheels in 18x10.5 rears and 18x5 fronts. M&H tires now makes a 18x10.5 slick and 18" bias front runners!

John had the front wheel pad machined down the max amount race star recommends(I forget the spec) so the front wheels wouldn't poke out from the fenders.

And the rears fit PERFECT! No spacers, nothing. May need longer ARP studs though. As the mag style nuts were right at the end of the ARP studs. The pads on the wheels are super thick.

Looks good , A restrictive IC can cause problems when your force feeding 20+psi of boost!

What offset/backspacing rear wheels did you use? Is the rearend tubbed and suspension work done? What offset/backspacing did you start with on the fronts, before machining?
    Sweet setup.....

They are the only sizes they offer in 5x4.50 bolt pattern in 18". Fronts are 2" BS, -25.4 offset. Rears are 7.63" BS 48 offset. No rear end mods just the long ARP studs and diff stuff.

It looks to be able to clear the bumper mounts, may have to notch the lower inside corner of the bumper struts(the thing you made the hole go thru) if you mount like I did. The front edge of cooler sits just behind the header panel lip up top. I went with this one because the specs on treadstones site said 12" tall but its really 12.5 which pushes the bumper cover down just a bit. I also cut the metal brace from behind the IC that connects the frame rails where the bumper struts mount, to facilitate fans.

Johns car came to me without the bumper bars.
