    Battery Corrosion

My wide's 2013 Ford Explorer's battery always has corrosion on the positive battery terminal. I mix up a glass of water with baking soda and pour it on the terminal to remove it, but is just keeps coming back. The battery is the original battery which is about 5 years old. Is it the battery that causes this or something else?

Bad ground as mentioned above or the battery itself is not completely sealed and corrosive vapors are coming out. The battery in my wife'a xterra is full of corosion around the metal hold down due to it having been over tightened which caused the battery case to flex a bit, its no where near the terminals.. It's 5 years old and I'll be replacing it.

I'd seriously consider replace that 5 year old battery.

It's not uncommon to have one or both terminals not 100% sealed. Doesn't mean the battery is bad per se, but at 5 years it's prolly close to EOL anyway.

I am old school from the 1960’s & 70’s. Put an older real copper penny under the terminal connector so it touches and your corrosion will stop. It has always worked for me. Try it and send a PM to confirm.

Replacing my Marauder's battery today. Got 91 months out of the original. 88 months on the one coming out today. Pretty good average of about 90 months (7.5 years) ... So I am sticking with the OEM Motorcraft BXT 65-650. I'm quite happy with the performance.

I can tell you don't live on a hot climate like Southern California.
Most batteries here last 3-4 years at most. My Marauder's seems
to need replacing every 36 months.

Yep, Minnesota. But the cold can take it's toll on a battery too. We can get in the mid 90's up here also.
