    Purchasing Parts - Note Quantity

I had previously ordered clips from Ford. The Ford P/N is 4 clips to a Ford Parts Bag.

I reordered from a Ford Dealer using the same P/N. I open the box and the Ford Dealer tore open the Ford Parts Bag and "removed" 3 clips! Although the P/N is 4 clips they "sold" me 1 clip.

When ordering by part number do not assume thats what you are ordering!

I argued with the Dealer and their response was "We only sell one clip".

Part of the problem is they use the Ford P/N, Ford description and Ford graphics.

I told them the fact that they tore open the Ford Parts Bag and "removed" 3 speaks for itself.

I've ran into this myself locally with O rings. They claim the part # is per piece just like a case of four gallons of paint..

Good thing the grocery store doesn't open your case of beer!

As a former Ford parts counterman.... your dealer was correct. They come in a package of 4, but they are sold as each. If they order a quantity of 1 they get a package of 4 in this example and they have available a quantity of 4 to sell.

When ordered directly from Ford and picked up at my local Dealer they come in a sealed Ford Parts Bag as a set of 4. Ford sells them as a set of 4.

    If the Dealer is going to;
    1) use the same Ford P/N
    2) Ford Graphics
    3) tear open the Ford Parts Bag removing 3.

Then the Dealer needs to make it clear they are only selling 1 piece.

    Purchasing Parts - Note Quantity

How the dealer could rationalize out of the words “One package 4 pcs” on the unopened package is beyond me. The fact that he tore it open to show 3 is proof that they shorted you one in the bag. If they are sold “as each” then they should come wrapped individually for sale “as each,” priced accordingly, and you should have had to buy four bags to get what you need.

I love how the dealer falls back on the individual method of sale to justify the clear bagging mistake.

Clever guy pulling that fact out of his ass on the fly like that at the last second, but his argument is irrelevant to the error.

P.S. BTW, these are the clips for the radiator cover?

Order from Amazon, at least they are quantity honest. $1 each then get a quantity number sufficient to make the $4 shipping worth it.

    https://www.amazon.com/Ford-W706519-...ds=W706519S300

Or get a pkg of 10 from aftermarket - just as good or better quality as OEM fot $15 with free shipping.

It sounds like b.s. but it’s not...that’s the way Ford Motor lists and sells some parts to the dealer.

Ok, sure, I don’t think anyone is disputing that now that it’s been explained.

What’s in question is the fact that the bag says “one package of 4 pcs,” and it has 3 pieces in it. How Ford chooses to sell those individually is irrelevant. The bag is either mislabeled, or short 1 piece. Either way they owe a clip to Sailsmen.

Yeah I would just say be grateful that they offer that.

If each individual clip is $4, and you walk in and ask for 3 clips, they could:
    A. Tell you, you have to buy a package of 4 clips, its $16
    B. Sell you three clips without the packaging for $12

Which is cheaper for the number of clips you needed.

Generally, my dealer will hold the packaging for any remaining pieces they are keeping in stock so that there are not loose random pieces without part numbers rolling around, so I would consider you further lucky that they were providing you with the packaging for a single clip.

Now it does sound like there was some miscommunication between you and the dealer - most of your front counter people are not the brightest, so I would not be surprised if it was their fault. But if you looked up the number, found out yourself it was a package of 4, called them and asked for one, that sounds like it is on you - in the dealership's inventory system, one is one clip, saving you the 12$ difference between one sell pack.
I eat apples until my stomach feels much more full than its normal.
