429 engine swap into an 03

I have been blessed with finally finding a 429 thunderjet and want to shoehorn that beast into my 03 Marauder with the long term goal to transform into a 56 Mercury M100. But that is another time in another thread... My question for now is has someone put a 429 in this car and what was used to marry the motor to the 03 trans? Also, is there any issues with the computer that I may not be factoring in? I’m sooo excited to finally see this project start!

I don't think the PCM is going to run it. You prolly will need a different trans. I see alot of trial and error and Fab work in the future in my opinion

    I like it!

We already have a 69/70 Marauder on an 03 chassis, why not an 03 with an X-100 drive-train?

I'm sure it can be done. As said already, probably lots of fab work. Twenty some years ago I saw an article on a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with a 427 SOHC and they used a stock hood. Thing looked stock! If they could put a cammer in a T-bird I'm sure you could do a 429 in a gen 4 Marauder.

It will burn twice as much gas with the 429.

If you are putting a Big Block in anything, you probably aren't (and certainly shouldn't be) worried about the gas mileage.
If its your DD...then a Big Block is sheer lunacy.

Guess how many MPG my 427 Cobra gets?
    I have no Ef-in idea!
I do know that when the second Holley opens up, the gas gauge goes down almost as quickly as the Tach goes up....

Don't forget to factor in the weight difference between the DOHC 4.6 and the iron 429. You won't need to cut a coil if you're going for some rake in the stance.

Wishing you the best if you even think the factory trans will work with that engine.
    Good luck

You will need a rear sump oil pan and even with that the oil pump is still in the front. Will the engine sit low enough ? A 4r70w trans unless modified will never take the close to 500 lb of torque you will have. Just put in a c6 behind the 429 but is the tunnel bug enough? You can always cut the floor out and move the engine back it will also handle better. You see it on tv all the time just cut and weld until it fits. You will get a nice 10mpg. Easy to figure mileage you need 10 gal for ever 100 miles you drive.

    Like I did? LOL

Just metal. Make it how you need it or simply put it back..

    Before seam sealer and dynamat.

You can stuff in whatever you want if you can fabricate.. But if you have to ask, then might be best if you don’t start hacking.

Just as an FYI, if you do decide to go with a C6 transmission, the C6 supplied with Cobra Jet 429's and early Lincoln 460's had 5 clutch packs instead of the usual 3 clutch packs. Many years ago, I when had my Torino Cobra C6 trans rebuilt, the tech who did the work relayed to me this info. He had to open another trans kit to get the additional clutch parts to finish repairing mine.

This is correct. My C-6 in my Mark III was rebuilt last year and it had the additional clutches, also the Lincoln 9" is larger than the other 9" ford products. I am getting better milage by replacing the factory motorcraft 615 cfm with a 'Quick Fuel 750 Cfm . 15 to 16 mpg on the hi-way now.Resenators and 1-7/8" pipes removed and now matched with the rest of the 2-1/2 "system.
