    Re: Advice Requested / Towing

So it looks like my right rear axle seal went and now I have oil leaking all over the right rear wheel and brake caliper. I am not a young person anymore and I am having the car towed to the shop tomorrow morning. First time having this car towed. Does it make any difference how it is towed? Flat bed? No flat bed? From the front? From the back? No difference? Thanks in advance.

Roll back, I wouldn’t use a wheel lift.

Being the seal is blown out, roll back, or a wheel lift with chalks. Having the rear end spinning will just make a bigger mess and more headaches

Flat bed is going to be the best. Be prepared to buy axles & axle bearings if the seal is leaking bad. The axle will probably have a groove where the bearing rides pretty common problem on all 8.8 rearends.

Is your Marauder a 2003? If so there is a kit for a complete rear rebuild from Ford. There was a TSB for Fleet cars (but us individuals are not good enough to be included) the kit has both axles bearings and fluid. When I had one of mine done the kit was not much more than a single axle cost. Hope this helps. Good luck. And I agree use a rollback. When mine went bad they used a rollback and when they got it off the right rear wheel just fell off. The axle had snapped.

Is this is the kit you are referring to?

To service, install Rear Axle Bearing Service Kit, Part Number 3W1Z-4A109-AA. Refer to the instruction sheet included with the service kit.

That part number looks right. Just make sure when you order it you ask and make sure it has both axles, bearings and lubricant. You are better off doing both axles since both of them are bad.
