Unhappy Anyone priced front tires recently...

I was getting ready to order new original equipment front tires from "Tire Rack".... they are $189.00 each......the last time I bought them (2008) they where $89.00 each.....
Bought Marauder in 2004 with 5,000 miles.
Bought new tires in 2006 with 25,000 miles.
Bought new tires in 2008 with 44,000 miles.
Had front end re-set as per Mercury Marauder site specs...
Ready to by new tires now with 80,000 miles...NOT BAD...
But the price for tires is killing me...
Anyone got any suggestion...? I really like the original equipment tires...

Most folks have gone to something besides OEM tires, due to price and availability.

Cooper makes a good replacement in OEM size, may want to check those out.

I remember this too. I think BFGoodrich dips the tires in Platnium now

Just about all the manufacturers make a 235/50/18 it's the rears that are hard to come by in the stock size.

Camaro runs a different grade of tire, they are NOT the same load or speed rating as the OEM MM BFGs, the guys that have tried them have not liked the handling.

Just replaced my fronts on Monday. Went with Cooper, OEM size. $340 and out the door (tires were $145 ea, I believe). Was quoted $400 or $450 for BFG fronts. Was quoted $400 to have Coopers put on the rears, which I will do in a couple of months. Quoted $500 for BFGs on the rear. Paid another $40 to have aligned to carfixer's specs.

The cheapest I found online for BFG fronts was $171 ea...plus $40 for shipping.

Good luck...you will find what you want at the price you want eventually.

It seems to me that the only f/r match that is reasonably priced is the Coopers.
I am going to get the Coopers up front, then get the rears to match when the BFGs wear out, (not long). The Coopers look good on Waymon's MM...

    COOPER ZEON RS3-A

They come in our sizes and have a teadwear rating of 500 !!!
They are available at Discount Tire Direct.
I will be ordering a set for my beast very soon...

The BIG difference between Cooper and BFG is that the Cooper has 10.5/32 of tread compared to the 9.5/32 of the BFG.
So with the Cooper you get 8.5/32 of useful rubber.
On the BFG you only get 7.5/32 of useful rubber, and rubber that wears FASTER too !!!

So THAT'S why my Cooper 235/50/18 fronts look as big as my BFG rears!!! I thought my eyes have been playing tricks on me...in fact, I looked at the sidewalls earlier today to make sure 235/50/18s were put on my fronts and not a bigger size...
