Is the 2005 Aviator block the same casting as ALUMINATOR?

Its been many many days since i did research on the Aviator 05 block, somewhere along the lines i ran across someone saying that the 2005 Aviator was the same block casting as the FORD RACING ALUMINATOR CRATE ENGINE.

I purchased a 2005 aviator ENGINE yesterday for $167.60 and will be using it for a rebuild. Sad is i also paid someone to remove it for me for almost as much, but i am not sore today from over 8 hours of work for her to pull it. LMAO.

Just wondering if the 05 block is different or better than the 03 04 block.
Yes it has the DB heads.

The Aviator block is not the same as the Aluminator, according to this site:

    http://www.terminator-cobra.com/castings.htm

The Aluminator uses the block from the '05-'10 Mustang GT.

This may help you. But I believe the Aluminator is a different block, from the 05-10 Mustang GT:

The wap block is 2004 and earlier, and I think.... the 2005's just got a CB explorer block which is the same thing as the earlier wap just made at nemak.

the CC blocks were the "aluminators" as far as I understand it, if you got one thats pretty cool. what are your build plans?

The CB's are basically WAP 2.0

nothing wrong with a CB block with DB heads.

I have a 2004 mach 1 block and a set of DB heads awaiting assembly for my 2004 aviator rwd, and

an 08 GT CC block with DC heads awaiting assembly for the marauder tt.

I have heard the rumor that late 05 aviators came with DC heads and CC blocks but have found zero confirmation on this.

    Thank you for posting.

I was right, the 05 AVIATOR has the aluminator block in it.
    PER that ad:

The latest offering in aluminum was the Ford Racing Aluminator which used, believe it or not, the block from the 2005-2010 3-valve Mustang GT. This block was coincidentally also cast in Windsor, Ontario, but this time by a company called Nemak. This new block can be distinguished by its revised casting number (beginning with "3L2E") as well as the Nemak logo, shown above, and to the right. It also has the diamond pattern in the intake valley, but don't let that confuse you - it's not just a "WAP". According to the Ford Racing official blurb, this is one stout block that will rival any previous offering in aluminum (with my emphasis added):

here is the picture of the casting number on my engine i had pulled yesterday.

If anyone can confirm i am wrong please speak up, i remember reading something about it a few years back.

This one has the CC block and DB heads... I thought i read somewhere the 2005 aviator was the same block as the aluminator. I just wanted to confirm it. I have a aluminator in my whipple car, ill use this junk yard motor with all new internals and maybe 98 cams. The pic of the block is above, and here is the head casting numbers

For future reference the block casting number is on the passenger side, between the motor mount and the transmission.

It is very easy to spot.

Nice score! Looks like the Aviator did get the Aluminator during its run.

If you read the very first hyperlink, it shows you can double score the aluminator block, PLUS you can also get DC heads instead of what i got was the DB heads.
But, mine are still 9 thread, just not the latest, latest revision.

At least that is what i read it as.

But for the money, i finally pulled the trigger after passing up 3 others recently that the trucks were not wrecked, and all were 03 04, i was waiting for a 05 because i thought they were aluminator blocks from reading on them years ago.

Most of these hit the yard not wrecked and its either the motor or trans...

This one said bad motor on the side of the truck and the coil covers were pulled and reset loosely. We turned the motor over about 10 times and there was tons of compression, no binding./
So who knows what the extent of the damage may or may not be, i have seen bad mechanics and cars hitting the yard.
Its getting a full inside gut replacement anyway, so if the block is good and the heads just need a few things id be happy.
    cant complain really.

One of the articles states that it is the strongest of any previously made ford aluminum blocks. This was just a easy purchase for me

as great as the teksid blocks are, I believe its the familiarity with them after more time and availability that has earned part of their reputation.

once a builder that pushes them to the limits finds something they know why change just to change? aluminators are probably not more available either.

I find it hard to believe that teksid is more than 20 years ahead of north american aluminum manufacturers perticularly the nemak plant where the CC blocks were produced.

The aluminators and teksids are both awesome blocks.

and unless you are doing insane things with it I am sure either will work beautifully given they are in good shape.

I went with the CC block instead of the teksid for many reasons that are preference based.

thats a nice score. the DB heads are awesome and my overall favorites.
