    More TSB Woes

    60birdtom:

I noticed you have identified yourself as a service manager so let me ask your advice.

I know not all dealers are the same but mine happens to refuse implementing TSBs that apply to my car that I print out from this site and show him.
Case in point, the one about the rear axles for cars built before 1/1/03. I tried contacting the custom ***istance line and they tend to agree with him saying if they run my VIN and nothing shows up, they don't have to perform the work. Sounds idiotic. Can you shed any light on this subject? I know others have walked in and gotten this done.

I second the question. My dealer also refused to do anything about the axles. Based on VIN number.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason for the General TSB was that Ford could not tell which cars are specifically affected, so there won't be anything show up specific by VIN.

Kind of scary, when thinking of the scale. Makes one think that maybe it'd be a good idea to do some introspection and think about what each of us needs to do to build a solid community, analyze what it is we're all honestly looking for by belonging to this community.

So based on this they should check all MM built before the date in the TSB?

Jim - It all comes down to $. FMC will only repair the vehicles which have a problem. To check them all would cost FMC big bucks which the will try to avoid. IMHO.

    Ok guys cool it............................ .....JK

The reason they won't do the TSB is your car doesn't have the problem...........yeah the VIN fits the TSB parameters but if your car doesn't do anything wrong there's nothing to fix..........The TSB for the axles is for a bearing noise from poorly heat-treated axles. Not all the VINs have the bad axles.......but if yours does the TSB is there to get it fixed right the first time..........

    It's not a recall.......it's a service bulletin

If you think there may be a problem have them inspect the axles which requires removing the rear cover..........which can cause a leak if not resealed correctly..........I'd wait for the noise to show first..........It won't leave you stranded if you have the noise(unless you let it go for 10,000 miles or so)

Jefferson is correct as not all axles produced during this period have the hardness problem. However; keep that info handy in case you need to have this repair done after warranty expiration. Then the dealer should go to bat for you.
