Lightbulb Just bought a new trans cooler - mounting questions

Tru-Cool MAX transmission cooler (Mini Max): Bulkpart transmission parts

Here is what I bought. It is a size smaller than what Darren (Bc-Automitive) recommended, but I think it will be fine. I wanted to mount it low in the car behind the lower slit in the grill in between the fog lights - so it will get fresh air. Any tips on this job? Anyone done it?

I was going to put it INLINE after the stock cooler with the thermal bypass before it.Also the lines on this are 3/8 and the MM uses 5/16 what's the best way to deal with that? Thanks

3/8" hose barbs on side of cooler.
    Size 4 x 23 x 3/4 inch
WITHOUT external thermal bypass! ( I purchased one)
    8 plates, 24,000 GVW / 22,000 BTU ratings

I've been running with just a deep pan and no cooler with my 9.5" PI. I need to get my SGII upgraded so it will read the trans temp.

Suggestions and comments welcome. I did read every post in this forum related to a cooler...

Make some brackets out of aluminum stock and buy the correct brass 3/8 to 5/16 adapter fittings.

Looking at what I have - what would you buy for fittings- Are those hardware store type items?

What do you think about my proposed mounting location?

    Tanks!

    Trans Cooler

I mounted (sheet metal screws) mine on the sheet metal bracket just behind the front grill and in front of the lower portion of the radiator.

It’s a bit of a pain to drill the sheet metal screws pilot hole but it can be done with care.

Routing the hoses takes a little care to safe guard against chaffing the hoses. I used rubber grommets to insulate the hoses from chaffing.
    Take your time.
As suggested source the correct fitting hardware

I guess I'll wait for the kit to arrive as it looks like there are step down fittings to 5/8 included. Got any pictures?

Why didn't you get one with a thermostat and a cooling fan?
I have seen these on Summit Racing and have seriously thought about one of those.

This is the brand and style Darren said were the best. The BTU rating says a lot. I wanted this one as it looked like it would fit "perfectly" in the lower bumper area opening - you know the one with nothing in it now. Plenty of fresh air. I don't think you need a fan if the cooler is good enough.

What do you have on yours? Anyone got pictures of a wide but short cooler mounted below the radiator?

I'm not worried about rocks. I will immediately pass anyone that is throwing stones or back off in a hurry. I don't like it when my car gets stoned...

I'm not good a fabricating - so I'm going to a friends shop, he has stainless flat stock.

I think I want to hang (2) bars down from the top of the radiator support and then bolt the cooler to that. Good idea or bad idea?

Sounds good thats how I did mine. I Made brackets out of aluminum from the top of radiator support and then just ziptied bottom of cooler to plastic chanel in front of radiator.

So no "L" shape at the top? Just drill holes in each piece. Zip ties keep it from swaying back/forth?

    Thanks.

    got any pictures?

I didn't think you could bend aluminum in a 90 like that without it cracking.
    Thanks for posting the pictures

If you try to straighten it, it will break. Gotta get it right the first time!
