    Stock 03 MM for SMOG?

I'm having a serious problem getting my 03 SC MM to pass SMOG. I talked to the guys at AED and they told me that it will be a big project to get this car to pass. I have a guy who will pass me under the table, but he needs me to bring an 03 that will legitimately pass. If anyone is interested in helping me out I would gladly pay you. Maybe $100?

Are you stock? Shouldn't be an issue unless you've done a lot of mods.

Im not stock. The guy who owned it before me, John, installed a SC and had the EGR deleted. Also some other things were disconnected, but I'm not too sure what. The guys at AED said there were probably 5 things they would have to do

What type of SC? If it's not a Vortech or Paxton, it's not CARB legal in CA.

That's the Eaton conversion, isn't it?

It's going to be a challenge to get passed in CA.

If it's an Eaton, doubt anything done to it will enable it to pass, period. CA is totally anal on that, Vortech or Paxton only; nothing else is CARB certified.

Why isn't the EATON CARB registered? Isn't that what was stock on the Cobra?

First, the Marauder isn't a Cobra, so even if a Cobra engine is ok for a Cobra, it isn't ok for a Marauder (in California).

Second, it sounds as if the installer did some other things during the installation, such as EGR delete. That's an emissions control device so it has to be installed and functional to pass.

In this case it does sound like other things were done to prevent smog. My thinking was that since the Mach and Cobra motors are similar, that the Eaton on it would be fine for California. Well, I can scratch that project off of my to-do list.

Makes sense to you and me, and folks in 49 other states...

You can still go the S/C route, just has to be a Vortech or Paxton centri.

He needs to hook up all the smog equipment (EGR/all 4 cats/stock exhaust manifolds) first and foremost. Then he can go to a state referee and as long as he passes the sniffer the state referee can issue the smog certificate. As stated by previous posts the Marauder uses the same motor as the Cobra/Mach - do they know the difference??? Its a pain but doable. I had to go through a similar process to pass my GMC Jimmy back in the day. There are mechanisms in place to handle this it just takes time and patients.
