    CVPI WOT 1-2 shift issues

OK, I have posted this a couple of places, but just looking for plenty of input on this. And, yes, I know the MM and CV have completely different motors, but the MM will bang WOT shift all the time, but the CVPI seems like it is trying to pull as much RPM as the MM, but is running out of breath before it ever shifts.

    Anyway, here it is:

OK, I have not really wanted to ask this as I don't know if I want to know the answer or not, but my car does not seem to want to make the 1-2 shift at WOT.

Now, I don't have a tach to check this against, but when going WOT the car never seems to want to shift. Maybe I am too chicken to hold in the gas much further, but the car isn't really pulling any more at the rpm it will get to.

Now, if I let off the gas slightly it will shift just fine and can go WOT again without a downshift. It's just that it doesn't seem to want to do the 1-2 shift at WOT. The car actually feels faster and shifts better at like 3/4 throttle.

Anything to check? Something to start worrying about? Or something that can/will be tuned out with the new XCal2.

The tranny, to my knowledge, is bone stock with 110,000+ miles on it. Car seems to hunt at times around the 30-40mph. by hunt I mean doesn't seem to know which gear it wants to be in. Has done that since I got the car. I had a tranny flush done on it last week and it seems to be running and shifting smoother, but still seems like it does not want to shift at WOT.

Shoot, the Marauder will pull to 6500 rpm and not run out of breath and still shift hard at WOT on the 1-2 and 2-3, but that is with Lidio's tune and 4.10 gears. But at least it will shift. The CVPI just doesn't seem like it wants to shift.

    Any and all input appreciated.

    Thanks.
    Eric

I ordered an XCal2 from Lonnie 2 weeks ago and still waiting on that from him. Can't get a hold of him by phone or email. Will keep following on that path as well.

Hmm, that is odd. Try the chip, but a stock P71 should pull just fine and not seem to run out of breathe unless it has been beat.

I would love to find another one to drive to compare. Hey, wait, my sister has an '01. Guess I could take her car out and see what it does.

Just seems like it is at the top of the rpm for this motor and ready to shift, but won't.

Tried to call Lonnie again and ended up leaving another message. Will see if I can get input from him.

I'd be willing to bet that your 03 P71 will shift just fine at WOT if you let it get strung out until it's ready to go to 2nd. I don't have a tach on it, but my old '95 P71 winds out pretty darned tight until it launches in 2nd gear. I've put 45k miles on it in the last 15 months, and now at 150k it still makes good power for an old beater car.

I guess I was just being a weeny or the car decided to drive differently after posting this. Someone had posted that theirs shifted around 45-47mph. Well, got on it twice after work today and sure enough it actually shifted on it's own at WOT right around 45mph. And they were solid shifts.

Not sure what my problem was before. Maybe it just sounded or felt like it "needed" to shift and wasn't. But it was running just fine after work in our lovely 90+ degree weather (with 100+ heat index).

It is very simple, just data log it if you have a Xcal 2 and select the pids to monitor then send the saved data to your tuner.

Here is my shift pattern for WOT:
    1-2 : 48-50
    2-3 : 80-85
3-od : Never got it past 110 to find out (Gov' kicks in)

    Try changing your fuel filter!!

If you are running out of fuel while the PCM is looking for a 45-47 MPH shift it will seem like it just ain't gonna happen as the engine will just run outta steam??

It may just be that simple??

Just had a tranny flush and fuel filter done last week. So that is good to go. Also has new plugs, MAF cleaned, new air filter and SeaFoamed the top end.

I will have to "experiment" more to see if it was just me not letting it go far enough.
