    New Ignition Coils

Well, im at 96K miles... and starting to think about how my engine is doing... and realized that i have never changed the engine coils...

what is the intervals of this change? and is it indeed necessary to do so?

i went to rockauto.com, and its a tad confusing... is cyinder 1,2 different coils from the rest? because rockauto sure does position it that way..

if anyone else has any tuneup tips, let me know.

If there not giving you any problems I would say your good. Some here have reported stock coils well over 100,000 miles, 1&2 are different and most of the guys here simply reccomend granatelli steel connectors in exchange of the stock coil wire spring. I have had coil problems and believe me its something you can feel!

    +1.

Only need to change them if there is a problem.

Highly recommend the Granatelli coil connectors.

    change all 8

I had running and idle problems caused by numerous bad coils

I put in a set of 8 ACCEL coils purchased from summit
    Part number 140034-8

this made a huge difference, smooth idle..more power...etc
I did my coils at 80K

Are you talking the wires or coil packs? I too have the Granatelli's and like them, but they are the wires, not the coil packs.

If your not throwing a CEL then the coils are fine. If your swapping them just to do something you may be surprised just how good the stock coils are. If you want to just improve the coil set up get some LFP coil connectors, they are alot cheaper than the GMS and are the same quality.

Yep, no comparison between the OEM ballpoint pen springs and the aftermarkets.

+1 I been running the LFP coil connectors for a while, they are $50 cheaper then the GMS and look and perform identical.

My Car was just running very wierd, surging idle...not alot of power.......
and there was NO CEL light.....that would have taken forever to show a CEL light....maybe a dead coil will show a CEL but intermittent does not

I've seen bad coils with an intermittent pulse throw a CEL as a mis-fire on the cylinder good Sir. All cases are diffrent so it does'nt mean i'm right or your wrong.

There is a threshold of misfires that needs to occur before a CEL will come on. Also, keep in mind, that at idle the coils fire 3 times, as opposed to running at speed, when they only fire 1 time.

Well, im feeling a lack of power recently... i lay down the accelerator, and it doesn't matter where i put my foot... the car just doesn't move... the car does have a sweet spot... where theirs not too much air, not too much fuel, and you ride the pedal into that..... but thats slow coming...

i have changed my spark plugs before, and two coils have gone bad.. 6,7 if not mistaken.

but, if someone knew of a good upgrade, fairly inexpensive. id pursue it...

also, maybe i could use a tune too.
