How to clean/wash motor/engine bay safely?

Couldn't find this anywhere. I'd like to get my engine bay looking fresh like when I bought it. What are the dos and donts?

Buy a citrus-based engine cleaner from any FLAPS or Walmart. Follow the instructions on the can. You might want to get some small paint or cleaning brushes for the hard to reach and crusty spots. DO NOT use high pressure water to rinse. Blow dry and use an engine dressing. You want something that will not attract dust and dirt. DO NOT use WD40 or silicone-based products. Once it's clean a quick spray with the hose will keep it looking good.

Castrol super clean works wonders on the heavy grease and grime. May have to experiment with dilution rates. Used to powerwash the sludge off of school buses before inspections. It's biodegradable too.

I use diluted Purple Power and a hose. I dry it with a leaf blower and use a silicone-based aerosol dressing. Eagle One makes an excellent one and it's just like using spray paint. No need to be accurate, thorough, or even wide afterward.

Very nice. I don't think mine will ever be that clean unless it gets a frame up.

    Engine clean

Here are before and after "EZ Pour Purple Power". Then use Meguiar's "Hot Shine Tire Spray? on black parts.
