    Arrow Check Engine lamp illuminated

This is a continuation of the 'Check Fuel Cap' thread in the 'Interior Electronics' category.

This afternoon, Check Engine lamp came back on about 5 miles away from home, at the very same time I actuated the cruise control. Periodic 'erratic idle' (without stalling) returned.

    ************************

About two weeks back, a periodic 'erratic idle' (with stalling) situation developed not long after refueling. No warning lamps or codes. Ford dealer checked out car and could find nothing wrong, including taking a fuel sample for visual check.

    ************************

Two days ago, the 'Check Fuel Cap' illuminated about 5 miles away from start. During a trip later in the day, the 'Check Engine' lamp illuminated about 5 miles away from home and the periodic 'erratic idle' returned. Dropped off car at local shop late in the day, along with the car's service history.

Shop phoned the next day, stating the 'canister purge valve' required replacement. Picked up car, ran well and no 'Warning Lamps" until today. Seems like we have gone full circle and are back to the original issue. Dropping car off at the shop tomorrow tonight. I'm away from home so I don't have access to my SCT device to check for codes - won't travel again without it!

    Any thoughts?

Put original fuel cap on and clear the code.

Unless it's under warranty, I'd find another shop. They replaced parts and it did not fix the problem.

When the random 'erratic idle - stalling' issue first manifested itself a few weeks back there were no warning lamps or codes. Dealer thought the fuel was ok. Some comments in the Facebook groups state that a dirty - malfunctioning IAC Motor'(?) would cause the same symptoms with no warning lamps/codes. My fingers are crossed...

Yeah, a faulty IAC certainly can cause idle issues, and if it's intermittent that makes it much harder to find. My P0455 only showed up after 7 weeks of trying to get the EVAP monitor to set. I'm going to swap the purge valve with the one in my 2000 GMQ that is the same part number and cross my fingers. Next step it to have it smoke-tested.

Just spoke to shop. Code was thrown for 'Canister Vent Solenoid'. Code cleared and didn't reset. Tested device and it worked properly. Due to the ongoing 'intermittent' issue, shop went ahead and replaced unit. They are keeping and driving the car until tomorrow to see if the issue re-manifests itself. South Carolina putting emergency preparations into effect starting tomorrow. I'll be hanging around for awhile.

So they did NOT replace the Purge Valve, instead it was the Canister Vent? Or did they replace first one, then the other more recently?

Ah, OK. Well, hopefully that's the end of it for you.

Also, may God be with you during Florence. I hope you don't experience any serious problems.

Florence is missing our little corner of SC; schools reopen tomorrow.

The Marauder? Picked up from shop. Ran beautifully, best idle in memory. Drove approx. 50 miles; started to pull away from a stop sign and it STALLED. No 'check engine' lamp afterwards and no codes thrown, just like the original episode a few weeks back. Car quickly restarted with mildly erratic idle and drove it back to the shop. Gave them permission to change out the IAC device. Pick up tomorrow.

    Arrow Wednesday Update

Picked up car (again!) this afternoon and drove the approx. 20 miles back to where I'm staying with a couple of stops in between. Car ran flawlessly; Marauder would immediately return to 1k idle speed when not under a load. Idle was often so smooth (in Drive) that I had to look at the tach to make sure it hadn't stalled again! Fingers crossed.

We are now in the direct path of Florence, with TS wind speeds predicted by sunset friday.

    Thumbs up

30 mile round trip tonight to pickup last minute storm supplies - car ran flawlessly. Steady idle when not under load at around 600 rpm according the tach. Maintenance now up to date? Hoping so!?!?

Curious who you taking Marauder to, and what corner of SC are you to Charlotte line? I am just pass the line from Tega Cay off 160---Also, have you considered a new fuel pressure sensor as the issue--it will cause stall out problems and sputtering if problematic--
