The Marauder unique VIN "M79" was introduced with the 2004 Mercury Marauder also with the "V" engine code. BTW -- all 2004 MMs are 300As (but with the features of the 300B from 2003).

You are correct if the owner is not one of the original owners who bought the car new. Some of these cars have changed hands several times in the past 10+ years and may have replaced the spare. If you know what you are looking for, you can determine whether it is a 300A or 300B without looking in the trunk anyway. It is very easy .... don't know why some folks seem to have difficulty figuring this out.
yeah, I know the difference, but it seems this discussion always seems to have the spare tire included. While its may be the way the car left the factory, like you said many cars have changed owners several times and spare tires have been added or disappeared some on the car itself so I use the interior features to let me know.

i beg to differ. thanks to there being 300A and 300B it has somewhat made a tier list. to a collector for example hes probably gonna want the 300A as it had the whole deal. it is the first batch of production models. may not be the first but it can be one of the first.

Another difference in the 300A and 300B is the cover that holds the driver side floor light. 300A has the cover. 300B has no cover and just a bracket to hold the light.

Member "2003_MM_FYRE49" has one of the 300A/300B changeover cars that had a mix of A/B features and was built on 11/11/2002. His sequence number was 5,945 of 7,839 in the 2003 model year.

So, it is pretty safe to assume that ABOUT 5,500 of the first year's production run were 300As.

Can anyone get a closer number than that ??

Reviving this thread only because my car is a 300a, number 664422, built 2002, December 11th. My car is Canadian, so traction control of course, but I have the trunk organizer, mini spare, NO separate clock, and I have a dot matrix windscreen

You have a 300eh !! ................ Actually, it sounds like you have a 300B based on build date and features. The Trunk Organizer was an option and is not factored into the 300A vs. 300B discussion.
