Thread: Modifications Thread

  1. #1

    Post Modifications Thread

The goal of this thread is simple: Get everyone or a great majority to list their mods and their review, long or short, simple or sweet. A one-stop thread for everyone. The idea comes from this thread authored at StangNet: Click Here Before Posting. This is a great idea, so great that with your participation this thread should be made a sticky over here at MercuryMarauder.net for each other's reference and our new members trying to figure out where to start.

    RULES:
    1) Only list Modifications done to your car as of now.
    2) No posts flaming someone else for their review or their opinion of the modification they have done to their vehicle.
    3) Lets stay consistent, each member post their modifications and review only. Preferably having the mod in bold type followed by a summary.
    4) For most of you this will involve a lot of typing. If you don't want to type it all, maybe you will tomorrow, or another day, but the users with an extensive mod list are the most helpful users on this board.
    5) Most importantly: No flaming on the subjects of Supercharger choices and the decision you made or the choice of oil/lubricant you choose to use. Same goes with the choice of Diablosport, Superchips, or any other tune as well as cold air intake setup. I ask that the moderators delete any post that puts this thread in that direction.

Many of you can spend all day searching various topics on different subjects you think our Marauder needs improving on. May it be handling, off the line performance, or an all around different car for the better due to the vast amount of different modifications. If there was one thread to search or look at, and keep looking at as user's update and post new modifications they just did to their Marauder, this is the thread. I hope to make this what Stangnet's members have done, with the senior members leading the way on this thread. You were once a newbie too, so post something that would have helped you out when you were looking at a different modification. This can be successful with your help. Take a few minutes and let us know about the direction you put your Marauder in, and how it is working out for you.

    not much:

    Bob White Inserts, Red Reflective
    Window Tint, 35%
Radio Shack 3 hole 12V tap for Cell phone, V1, and GPS
    Dan

Rest area, rest home -- what difference does it make? I'm sure Grandma enjoyed seeing all those big trucks pulling in and out.

    I have

Tinted windows: That came with the car from the dealer. Got to make them darker though.

Bob White's Black Inserts: So people can see what smoked them.

GT coil covers: Adds a little touch o' bling, think I got another 2 hp out of them.

Pioneer Speaks: Because I couldn't stand the whopping 25w stock speakers but since they are heavier I lost the 2 hp.

    I fixed that with

Trilogy #69: Now thats a fun one.

JLT CAI: Lets the girl breathe and growl like a true panther. Which brings me to

Flowmaster Delta 50's: Thanks to Tom (Marauder TJA) she rumbles just fine.

Silverstars: Just wanted to see the big difference....there is none that I can see.

That pretty much sums it up.....

Supercharger: Trilogy #58. Roots-type S/C with incredible get-up-and-go muscle-car performance. Everything I expected, and more. Gas mileage is similar to stock under normal driving conditions, but who can name a Trilogy S/C owner that drives normally... (not me). Bottom line: Get one. It's the only mod you really need to wake up that Marauder.

K&N Air-filter kit: Great package and performs wonders. Added RWHP straight away after install.

Drilled/Slotted Rotors: I got mine from a company called RotorPros on an eBay auction. The jury is still out on these performance-wise, (still testing entire brake system) but the "bling" is substancial. Lots of compliments. See pics.

Paint your calipers! This is an easy mod, and cheap. Sand and paint your calipers with matching car color for that "custom" brake look. See pics.

Innovative Interceptor "delete tips": These are very similar to the standard stock stainless steel exhaust tips except that the factory equipped "baffle" is removed to give your Marauder a deeper/louder rumble. Analogy: Similar to turning up your Marauder exhaust volume one notch, (maybe two). See pics.

Neon underbody security lighting kit: I call this the "security" lighting kit since this is what the kit was designed for. I simply replaced the standard white "puddle" lights with StreetGlow blue neons, (gold series) for a different effect. Contact Shakes_26 for details on the kit. See pics....

SS inserts and S/C emblems: The SS inserts for the rear bumber are top notch! They really stand out and look great! I think the S/Ced emblems are a good addition to a S/Ced Marauder and makes 300C owners think twice before bothering me. See pics.

That's it for now but have 2 more mods to be completed within next couple weeks. I'll update...

Silverstar headlights: I can see better!
    18" Magnaflows: Much better sound.
Modified CAI and mount: Let the baby suck some more air!
SCT chip: Improved shift points, H/P+TRQ.
Self inflected J-Moded tranny: WOW, this thing can hit it all day long!
Custom 1/2" phenolic manifold spacer: Great TRQ from 3000-4500 RPM and better heat control into upper manifold.
Custom 1" phenolic throttle body spacer: Better throttle response and slightly better MPG. Also cooler air going through the throttle body>more power.
Custom heat sheild: for the air filter.
Limo upper control arms: No mystery there.
Custom "I" beam lower control arms: Again no mystery.
Under drive pullies: Faster unsprung rev accross power band.
Motorcraft 22C plugs: Supposed to help from spark knock.
Back lit upper console control: I can see you buttons! No more fumbleing around in the dark.
Back lit cup holders: To go with the upper console

Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

    Rest In Peace:
    Alex "Marauderboi" Vachon 3/2/92-8/13/10
    Paula Babineau 1/9/67-8/2/11
    Rex Weinbender
    Peter

See my garage file for part numbers and whatnot.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

    Let me see if i can remember;

Reinheart stage one chip- changed the shift points and took away the speed limiter

Denso plugs- changed for the addition of the chip

180 stat- also changed for the chip

Dyno tech driveshaft- now i can go over 120 safely, i did notice a difference! It was worth it for me.

4.10 gears FMC- really noticible difference off the line

black reflective inserts- funny to see people haul a$$ up behind me at night, then see the letters (cant figure it out) then pull back because they just dont get it. I like the way they look at night.

Silverstar headlight and turn signal blubs- I have bad enough eyes, and now i can see at night.

XM roady radio- nice for those long trips, use it on all my toys.

spoiler- love the way it looks

tinted windows- it came that way from the dealer, wish they were darker

chromed wheels- they look great! Too bad it happened from a dealer mistake.

Snorkel delete- took off that plastic thing on the intake, i like the sound now.

Added some buillet pieces, oil cap, door lock pins.- they are nice i guess.

Added Marauder buillet door sills- they are really cool and i get alot of complements.

trunk organizer- love it because i can hide all my junk i feel i have to carry around.

oil pressure gauge- got rid of the stock one and installed a working one! Love it!

Thats it for now, i want to take a sec. and thank Jim and the vegas crew for helping me! I have a torque converter, and reinheart stage 3 trans. kit waiting for me to install in the garage.

    He he... here we go.

180° Thermostat - recommended by DR

PHP Intake Spacer - good for 5-15 HP

<strike>Metco Carbon Fiber Intake Tube - Pricey, no improvement that I could tell</strike>

<strike>JLT Ram Air Intake - Looks good and maybe 5-10 HP too.</strike>

K&N Filtercharger Injection Performance Kit w/DryCharger Filter Wrap - Looks good and maybe 5-10 HP.

    Polished Upper Intake - BLING!

    Polished Coil Covers - BLING!

Kooks X-Pipe, Headers - Best grin factor mod. Great sound & 20-30 HP.

JW/DR Head Cooling Mod - preventative mod

    <strike>Ford Racing 4.10:1 Gears - quicker off the line</strike>

Ford Racing 4.56 Gears - even quicker off the line

Eaton 31 Spline Posi Limited Slip Differential - mo' beefy

Moser 31 Spline Custom Alloy Axles - mo' beefy

Steeda Underdrive Pulleys - reduce parasitic drag, quicker spin up

Meziere Electric Water Pump - reduce parasitic drag, quicker spin up

Naake Q1A Coil-Over Shock Kit - still experimenting. Part of overall suspension upgrade (sway, tires, watts, control arms, etc.)

BAER Claw Racing Brake System - WHOA fast to compliment GO fast.

Art Carr Deep Transmission Pan - preventative mod w/BLING

Denso Iridium IT-20 Spark Plugs - recommended by DR

BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW2 Tires - better traction. I like the tread pattern better too.

Custom Panther Fender Decals - BLING! (see sig pic below)

Front Window WeatherFlectors - worst designed body to window aerodynamics. First time I opened the window while it was rainy I got pretty wet. Highly recommended. I had rears too but took then off as the rain issue isn't as bad in the back seat.

Custom Badgeless Grille by Zack - BLING!
