    Bleeder screw size?

What is the correct size of our brake bleeder screws?

is it a 3/8" dia. - 24 pitch thread x 1 and 1/8" long? Or is it a 10MM diam screw? I've searched here, cvn, and mcm and found one post by cntrlraven which said they are 3/8-24x1".

The 24 pitch thread seems about right. I have searched rock auto, google, jegs, summit and the motorcraft catalog online and I cannot find a listing for a replacement part for 2003+ MM's, MGM's, or CV's. I've visited Advance Auto Parts, Pep Boys, and Autozone (Napa and Carquest were both closed by the time I got to them this afternoon). All have speed bleeders, which I don't want. Only Advance Auto had normal Dorman-brand bleeder screws 3/8-24x1.25L which are supposed to fit Chrysler/GM/Ford applications. I removed a good screw from another caliper and it is slightly different than the Dorman - OEM is only 1 & 1/8" long, the point section is slightly shorter than the Dorman. The Dorman went in, tightened down o.k., does not appear to leak (no test drive yet), but I was hoping for an exact replacement. I'm guessing the Dorman piece shares enough of the characteristics of the Ford part to do the job, but differs to allow compromise such that it will also fit the Chrysler and GM applications???

They should be 3/8"-24 x 1.125" OEM, though more common x 1" works fine as well.

If the dealer doesn't have them in-stock your best bet would be Napa IMO.

Pay particular attention to the conical sealing area, if the shape of the Dorman piece is slightly different I would try to find a less ...universal replacement.

Can anyone find the Ford part number for these bleeder screws?

I stripped my driver side rear one (I bleed the brakes twice per year) and have just been skipping that caliper. I want to replace it when I install the SS brake lines.

    Thanks.

CF L/M parts dept. says the part # is 6L3Z-2208-AA. They have to order them, and expect delivery Thursday/Friday. Cost about $8 ea. I tried googling the part number and had only limited success. Perhaps Brian or Ray could verify the #?

^^ This is the correct part number, I picked two up at the dealership today. Visually they are an exact match to the oem screws on the car (unlike the aftermarket ones I bought at Advance Auto and Napa). I still don't have size specs, as the dealer was unable to find that data. I will tell you this, the oem screw fits the caliper hole a bit tighter than the 3/8-24 aftermarket screws (less wiggle). It reminds me of the difference between SAE and metric when the two are almost the same, but less of a difference. FWIW.

Thank you for sharing that info.

I need one and will now be able to pick it up from the dealer without an issue.

Well, I tried to remove the broken bleed screw - twisted the tip of the extractor off. Screw it, I've got 95K on the damn car, I'll just replace the friggin' rear calipers. Went to rockauto.com and they have loaded calipers by A-1 Cardone. Interestingly they also carry Raybestos calipers - which state the following: Bore Size=1.885" Inlet Thread=38/X24 Bleeder Thread=M10X1

So - the bleeder is metric, not 3/8-24.

I replaced both rear calipers with Raybestos reman CVPI calipers, fully loaded with ceramic pads and flushed the system with synthetic brake fluid. Bought the calipers from Rockauto.com. Great customer service.
