    Rear deck speaker size???

I've seen some stereo dealers claim the rear deck speakers in the 04 MM are 6x9 instead of 6x8 as used in the front doors. Has anyone changed them out and are they really 6x9? Would like to know for sure before jumping in. BTW, replaced the front door 6x8 speakers this weekend and it was a piece of cake. No problems.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Its 6x8 all around, but 6x9's will probably fit back there. Back is much easier to install too. why not just use the same type out back as you did up front?

    Just my 2cents here

Oblong speakers are acoustically flawed and if your upgrading you should replace them with 5 1/4 in. round speakers. You can buy or make plates to fill the gap and mount the speakers.

as mentioned the factory speakers are 6 x 8 both front and back. That being said, you have a number of choices available. If you want to go with 6 x9's in the rear you can either bottom mount them(no adapter needed) or buy an adapter and mount from the top or trim the factory speaker cut out a little with a zip or jig saw. For the fronts you can use adapter rings and choose from 5x7's, 5.25's, or 6.5's. All depends on what you are looking for. Here's a link for adapter rings: http://www.installer.com/speakerparts/
