MPG gains with CAI?

Ok I know that a cold air intake will give somewhere from 10-15 more horsepower all the companys put in in big letters next to the picture of the product and they also say that it will give you better fuel economy, yet I can't seem to figure out how much if any mpg gains it gives. I even wrote to JLT and asked and all I got was something to the extent of "we can't say for certain but we no it helps, not hurts fuel economy". Anyone got real test numbers or even a feeling as to what the difference is?

Most gains are "Seat Of The Pants" IMHO......The OEM Marauder intake flows very freely!!!

I remember picking up one MPG or so with mine and a bunch of induction noise.....Dyno runs are inconclusive since the "Cold" air you get running on the street or strip ain't there on a stationary dyno??

You will see(feel) an improvement but I doubt it will be 10-15 HP??

Fuel mileage may actually go down quite a bit as you will want to hear the induction "Moan" A LOT!!!

I gained 10rwhp (dynoed) with my JLT but I dont really know if it improved the MPG because I have a hard time keeping my foot out of it.

I am no help on this either. I had my JLT sitting in my living room before I bought the car.

EVERY car is going to get different mileage. No one drives the same, lives in the same climate, drives the same routes and roads, has the same tires, same oil in the engine, same mods.....

impossible to give an accurate measurement.

There is a range on the window sticker... and with a JLT intake... I'm willing to assume you are going to stay within that range.

I have a JLT and quite honestly I haven't seen much change in MPG. Maybe 1 on the highway and .5 in town.

You do get a bit more performance out of it, I've personally noticed it will climb hills better. However as stated before, the CAI will change the way your car sounds. And believe you me that sound is worth EVERY PENNY!!!

It does not improve fuel economy, because you will be romping on it out of every light and upshifting on the highway just to hear her purrrrrrrrr...Sounds great during a burnout! I definitely felt a noticeable difference in performance but I really can't say what kind of HP gain I got... I have a K&N CAI not JLT

I can say that I noticed a .10 decrease in my 1/4 mile time after installation.

4rgone, I believe what the others said^^^ pretty much sums it up.

DO NOT believe HP/TQ claims for a CAI...I'm not saying there aren't any, but I doubt you'll get anywhere near the advertised numbers. Same for mileage claims. Unless you've VERY carefully documented your mileage for a while and you continue to drive exactly the same after installation, you won't notice any significant change.

As Marauderjack said above, the MM intake system, designed by Jack Rousch, is one of the highest-flowing intakes Ford has ever put on a car, so don't expect a lot of improvement from a CAI change alone.

I will say this. The mods on my car have all complemented themselves well. I've done more to this one than my last one and went with steeper gears. My MPG is better than my old car. I hit the low fuel light at 300, my other car would only touch that if it was ALL freeway.

It's all in how you drive the car really, some will drive the same manner while others will complain about losing mpg but they don't mention it's because they push the right pedal down more often and harder.

Remember an engine is a air breathing machine, when you take more air in you should consider letting more out by opening up the exhaust system also.

Thanks everyone. I don't really want a cai for fuel stuff but I was curiouse to know if the claims about fuel economy were realistic and if it really sounds that much better I don't think I will be able to control my foot.

The induction noise will drown out the OEM exhaust noise at WOT....to give you an idea of how loud it will be!!
