    Cool Headlight off delay time

Just curious, My headlight off delay is a little bit short (I think). It seems to time out in about 18 seconds from vehicle shut off or innitiation from unlocking the door with the key fob.

That amount of time isn't long enough to get into the car or away from it most of the time. kinda almost annoying. Is this normal? What are the times on other MM's

This is the first auto headlight feature that I've had with Ford that doesn't have a time adjustment by the switch. Is this adjustable? Didn't see anything in the owners manual and the Service advisor is drawing a blank.....Thanks

I may be mistaken, but I thought the auto headlight delay was controlled by the dash light dimmer switch...ie...brighter the dashlights, the longer the delay. I dunno know where I read or heard that at, but it comes to mind.

Let me know if it is true.

T-birds have what u are talkin about

My buddies 94 bid had auto off lights like the MM, and it had a dimmer style switch above or below the interior light switch.....it is similar, that may be what u are thinkin of?
    Oh well just a thought....

My 2003 300a doesn't have any setting with the light switch to control the delay. I don't think that the dash dimmer switch is involved in this, that's just a dimmer switch. As far as I know, the auto headlamp function on the Marauder is fixed in terms of delay. Kind of a bummer. My '97 T-Bird had a seperate dial to allow you to adjust this.

The dimmer has no relation to the time delay. I'm pretty sure about that. (While we're on the dimmer there isn't much of a detent in the motion between full dash lights and interior light on...kind of poor design?)

Going back to the origional post though, how long is the delay time on other Marauders? With mine being just short of 18 seconds and is that the norm?

Also was looking since there is no dash mounted adjustment for the delay time if there was some "secret handshake" type of adjustment? Like how the annoying seat belt minder is turned off. Not everything is put in the manual-like for example that our vehicles actually have speed sensitive volume control or how to adjust it (addressed in an older thread)

I ran across this, look in the your car manual. I read something in the manual on how to make it a shorter or longer delay cycle. It just seem like a pain in the butt to me on how to do it, but it can be done.

    Flatlander,

My '04 DTR is the same as yours -> 18 sec. then shutoff as checked a few minutes ago.

The dimmer below is in fact for the dash lights / cabin lights as stated in some of the replys. My '01 GM did have adjustable delay however.

My 2000 GM had the adjustable time delay. IMO the FMC saved a few $'s by deleting the time delay switch.

It's actually a different switch from the GM due to the MM having fog Lamps. Where is the time dely controled from, is it in the switch? and can it be modified?

    Ok class lets try this.

    1. Turn the headlamp switch to OFF.

    2. Turn the ignition to RUN and then back to OFF.

3 Turn the headlamps switch to Autolamp position.

4 Wait the desired amount of time for delay, then turn the headlamp switch to off.

5 steps 1 to 3 need to be performed within 10 seconds.

    Hope this works.

does anyone’s overhead console buttons light up? At night I can't find the build-in homelink garage door button! On the 2003 Lincoln Continental the buttons light up in the overhead console so you can see what heck you’re doing.
