Thread: CVPI driveshaft

    CVPI driveshaft

I'll have mine in the next few days. Is there anything I should note to look for on it to make sure it's okay? Just to save a trip back to the performance shop that tracked it down for me if I need to have them exchange it for another one. Owner of the shop had wherever he is getting it from double check the color code on it also.

I will be having a well known local driveshaft repair shop high speed balance it and install new hardware on it before it's installed.

Picked up the driveshaft yesterday, shop owner was going to clean it for me but part of the color stripes wiped off so he waited for me to actually see it. Had the driveshaft repair shop check it out and they said it was perfect, no re-balancing needed and U-joints were in great shape.

    crtlraven,
What shop are you using? I have one (MMC Police ALCOA) of these sitting around and would like to get checked out and balanced if necessary. Color stripes are pink, green, blue correct?

    pink/blue/orange = Aluminum
    pink/green/blue = MMC

If the stripes are gone you can weigh it too. MMC is several pounds lighter than the aluminum shaft.
Good place near me to get it checked. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/
Most places will only spin it at 500 rpm...

I doubt that. And would hope not.

Most driveshaft balance is around 3,000 RPM at a minnimum.

Go elsewhere if they cannot hit those RPM's.

Good call on the driveshaft, that to me is a must do for 4.10 gears and is the reason I'm holding off for now.

I just did 105mph with 4.10's and a stock driveshaft around CMS. No vibrations.

All this crap about "if you install 4.10's with the stock driveshat your tranny will fail" is just that............ crap

    Install the 4.10's.

Normal driving with the 4.10's will do no harm.

Occasional blasts to triple digits would affect anything either.

Ahem, wrong. There not only have been cases reported, but fully documented cases complete with blown tailshaft housing pictures and such posted right here. Just beacuse it hasn't happened to you personally doesn't make it the norm. I think I've read about at 5 on this very site.

5 out of how many cars?

Normal driving with 4.10's won't cause any damage.

Sustained high speed, 100mph+, might cause damage.
