if the cable is loose and doesn't fully "seat" into park the car won't start, but if you jiggle it or in your case cycle from neutral back to park it might work

I think it was a fluke. Once in garage I didn't move shifter. Twice it didn't start. Once it did.

Sounds like intermittent starter to me. This is what mine did before it failed. Some key turns worked, some didn't.

If you hear a 'click' but no start that means the plunger is engaging but not cranking the engine.

If you hear nothing then the plunger is not engaging at all.

    OEM is good.

If you're good with your hands...it's 3 or 4 bolts (top one sucks) but overall not bad. All you need is a socket set with a couple of extensions.

Yes. Probably not a bad idea to eliminate the possibility.

I'm leaning toward whole unit...those seem to fail more regularly than the relays/fuses.

Fuse box under the hood, passenger side.

Owners manual will guide you to the proper relay if you have it...

On the back side of the fuse cover there is a diagram representing the fuse box lay out. Find "302" which is the Starter Solenoid Relay. Switch it with one of the other big relays with the same part number. 301 is blower motor, 303 is air suspension, either of those are fine to swap around for trouble shooting.

Yesterday, I cleaned the starter cables. Slight green on positive one, removed nuts, wire wheeled, penetrating fluid and a shot of krown rust spray, picked up a starter relay for $9.
    Fingers crossed....
Will post if i have more issues....
