    Just did one last Sunday.
Pull the belt, the tensioner is clacking.

Black marauder made the same noise, I seriously thought the engine took a ****!

You should buy the ribbed pulley, the smooth pulley and the tensioner all at once..

I bought mine at rock auto
    The twins2.3 whipple/aluminatorVortech V-2 lots of goodies

I didn't say pushrod. LOL mind you... My mechanic is listening to a YouTube video and trying to figure out what's going on.

Could be the starter - either the magnets or the drive stays engaged until it's kicked back

Radiator cooling fan - with the car running turn on the A/C - this forces the fan on. If you hear the noise disconnect the fan and try it. Of course you need to turn off the engine first.
I saw the starter post and replaced the starter a few days ago. It didn't fix it.

I like the theory that oil isn't reaching somewhere on start. I'll try doing an engine flush this weekend.

I replaced the tensior and belt a year or two ago. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the front to me, but maybe it is one the pulleys. It does sound like a bad ball bearing.

If the car has had regular oil changes with high quality oil & filters then I'd not worry about flushing the engine. In fact you may do more damage to the engine.

What filter is on there now? You should use a Motorcraft FL820S which has the anti-drain back valve.

Take off the serpentine belt and start the engine.

BTW.. it's always a good idea to change all the pulleys and belts at the same time as they all get the same amount of use.

I believe these motors have bucket style cam followers. Correct me if I’m wrong

Of course, since posting this and since I've been opening the hood every time before I start to make a better video, the noise hasn't happened.

I pulled off the drive belt. I replaced the idler pulley, belt, and tensioner in 2015. I didn't replace the ribbed pulley, though. It sounds rough.

I assume it's not supposed to sound like that when I spin it.

I thought modern oils could give me at least 100,000 miles before a change.

When I had it open before and heard it, it didn't sound like it was coming from the front. I'm not certain this will fix the noise. I would expect to hear it every time if the pulley is the source.

We'll see... new part is on the way...
