What goes round and round?
Answer: rayjay's DTR on black ice when pulling out to pass last night. The roads had been dry and clean for the 1st 115 miles of my trip home. Air temp was hanging between 35-37F, so no worries about any ice. I was behind a Buick doing 15 under the limit for about fives miles on a high traveled county road. My wife says there is a short passing zone coming up. As I came out of the curve into the passing zone I indicated my pass, pulled out to the left and hit the throttle. The rear end immediately came fully around. I was too busy trying to regain control, but my wife and daughter counted four 360's, all on the pavement. Keep in mind that these were not immediately back to back 360's. At one point we were headed backwards into the woods that are only 10 feet off the pavement. How I kept her out I don't know. The man upstairs must have also been in the car with us. Some skill and whole lot of luck kept the DTR from getting wrecked. Hitting a tree backwards at 40+ mph would have finished the car. Upon reflection that area of road is shielded from the sun and wind due to the closeness of the woods on both sides of the highway. It probably never dried out yesterday and froze up when the temp went below 32F. It was 30F when I looked after the whoopty doos. My studded snows were worthless in this situation, the road was glare ice for quite a distance. Needless to say I did 15 under the limit until I got off that stretch of highway. And the Buick? He pulled over in the little town up ahead and let me pass.
