    KYB SR4140 vs. Motorcraft ASTL37

I wanted to share my experience with both of these quality replacement strut assemblies.
I have 293k on my daily 2004 Grand Marquis with the original struts and the front had become obviously sloppy on a rough road. I've been living with it for a while actually. The old car seems to keep going strong so I bit the bullet and replaced the originals with KYB SR4140 one month ago. I put 3,600 miles on the car after the KYBs were installed. It drove beautifully, it handled great, and I regretted waiting so long to replace the originals. There was one small issue I did not like- the front was higher than I prefer. I checked the mounting points to be sure any tension was relieved, but it still sat too high in the front for my tastes.
This morning I installed the stock replacement assemblies, Motorcraft ASTL37. The car drives fine still, not as stable as with the KYBs, but just right for a high mileage beater car. I think both assemblies are very good but I did not want to cut a coil on the KYBs so I swapped them out with stock. For reference, I have attached pictures of a side by side comparison. The KYB has 1.5-2 more coils than the stock units. Someone on this forum my want to see the comparison picture.
