Finally bought my own tire mounting machine and balancer for home use

I have always wanted my own tire mounting machine and wheel balancer, since I am always changing cars and tires around. I have had so many bad experiences with techs damaging expensive wheels and also not balancing correctly. After I had a shop let me use their machines once, I realized I could do this stuff myself and not have to worry about damaging stuff. So the reasonable conclusion was that I should buy my own machines for home use (doesn't every home owner need stuff like this?)

The wonders of craigslist... I picked both of these up locally w/ my truck.

I negotiated the balancer down to 500.00 and the tire machine down to 650.00

Both work great. The balancer was recently certified by a calibration tech

They still sell this model tire machine and it is $1900 new so I am very happy

Now I am sure I will make a lot of "friends" in the area that need work done

Yeah definitely, it was good to meet you. You're welcome to come see the crap I have over at my home "shop" and I can always use a hand

Is the ex a 4 wheel drive? So gear swap = 2 gear swaps? I have the rotunda tool kit to set pinion depth, the only thing I don't have is a lift! I'm working on getting one of those too though.

WOW, Steve! I thought I was a hotshot when I had the lift installed, and started the stampede; but you've trumped us all.

    OUTSTANDING!

I award three trophies, one for the vision and one each for the equipment.

BTW, by the home in the woods photo, I'd guess you're in deer country; but, please tell us that rusty Silverado belongs to someone else.

Mike, the silverado is mine. I work on more chevy stuff than anything else. That truck was $300, it's 4 wd and intact so I couldn't turn it down. I put a 10:1 327 I had kicking around in it, w/ the stock TBI still on top. It runs and drives great and I don't have to worry about denting it

I would still take a lift over this stuff but I have to re pour the foundation on my detached little shop if I am going to put a lift in, so that will have to wait.
Yeah there is a lot of deer hunting around me.

The silverado has 249,000 on it and I had to replace all suspension parts on the truck so that it will go straight down the road. The 350 was totally shot but running, but I swapped it out with a low mileage 30 over forged internal, small main 327 with ported and polished heads and a mild cam. It's a little too radical of a small displacement engine for a truck but it still has a ton more power than an 8.5:1 350, and I was not using the engine for anything else so why the hell not.

Not so fast on turning down the lift, Steve. We put a 4 post from Rotary Lift in my 3 bay Morton building, and needed no special floor spec. Also there are casters (removable) so it can be moved from bay to bay, as I wish. Check 'em out.

Mike, I have 2 garages and the detached one is where the bigger projects get done. It is a really old building and the slab is really really not level. It can't take a lift
