I have a suspicion that it has more to do with our PC culture. I think they don't want to upset people in places like Japan town San Jose and other places that don't see it from quite the same perspective especially how in hindsight the use of the bomb has become quite controversial.

Never understood the PC view about dropping the nuclear bombs...."Oh...the United States was so horrible!!"

    #1 : This was a WAR.
#2 : Invading Japan would have cost the US casualties that would've made Iwo Jima look like a picnic.
#3 : The nukes were just the latest technology... REALLY big, devastating bombs....
We were already bombing the hell out of the Japanese...including nasty incendiary bombs.
I guess we should have stuck to the regular 'PC' bombs....

The PC pansies tried to re-write the Smithsonian's Enola Gay display with PC garbage...but the WW2 Veterans stood up and said: "OH HELL NO!!"
    "You weren't there ..so STFU!"

As we approached the mainland of Japan on the outer islands entire villages committed suicide rather then be under the USA Forces.

20 years latter you still had Japanese "soldiers" fighting, including killing farmers.

The "bombs" saved over 2,000,000 lives mostly USA forces.

I cannot state here what the Japanese did as a matter of policy to USA POWs, Chinese and Philippine Civilians.

    WWII

My Dad wanted to served but he had two children and wasn't allowed to serve. However, my Uncle Willard served in the Marines and never spoke to us about the war. My younger Brother and I served in Vietnam in 1967. My Brother served with the 101ST Air Mobile in 1970 and received a Purple Heart. He was in operation RipCord and only 17 survived out of 84 in his company. Three of my cousins( all brothers) served aboard the Arizona.
