Winter wheels, or re-mount tires?

My Marauder is my daily driver. I live in Minnesota so I really need winter tires. I've driven the past 3 winters with Firestone Firehawk's - They're OK but not nearly as good as dedicated winter tires, which I had before that with black steel wheels. I do not like the stock-car look with the steel wheels though. I am considering getting Blizzak's and having them mounted every year, which means my summer tires will get mounted every year. Will that work OK? Is it too hard on the tires and/or wheels? If I magically find an extra $1,000, I will look for an additional set of Marauder wheels, but that may not happen. Thank you

scan craigslist for some 18" mustang wheels, usually under $500

Winter wheels, or re-mount tires?

If your car uses the stock brake setup, then you can fit 16" wheels from any compatible Ford product.
Personally, I use 16" rims from a 2006 MGM, which I picked up from a boneyard for a decent price nearly 10 years ago.
If I had the time, I'd seek out a set of 17" rims from a CV Sport.

So what about just using one set of wheels and mounting tires? Is that a viable way to go? Will tires survive multiple mounts/unmounts? Thanks

why ruin your marauder wheels? true winter tires are far superior for snow, cold. ice. it,s hard on the bead to mount and dismount numerous times in my opinion

i use separate wheels and tires for winter and summer. mounting , dismounting and balancing 2 a year not that great for the tires bead as well as the pocket book. Might just consider steel wheels for winter.

I used to use some nice aluminum grand marquis rims with snow tires for a few years. Looked ok and drove great in the snow. I got the rims ridiculously cheap on eBay back in 2009. I think I payed less that $100 for all four rims and center caps then. LOLzzzzz

Some shops will not mount used tires. I used to run Michelin Xice on 17’s steels and WOW the traction they provided! No weight in the trunk and it would carve a sure footed path in 6” of snow dragging its own undercarriage up a steep hill to get me out of my unplowed subdivision.. Never fish tailed.

Oh yea and the cost, time, and glue you have to clean off the Marauder wheels... Why bother?

If you amortize 8 tires being removed and balanced... At only $15 per tire (for onr full years change out and back) you are at $120 AND you have to spend 2-4 hours cleaning your banged up Marauder Wheels.

Find some GMQ of CV-LX wheels and tires for $100-200 and simply change them out. I sold 4 nice clean LX wheels with great like new/ lightly used Michilins for $200.

Craigslist...

Thanks everyone for the comments. I decided to get a 2nd set of Marauder wheels that I will dedicate to Blizzaks or Xice tires. I will be glad to have my Marauder maintain the stock appearance year round while having superior winter driving safety.

Awesome, I was thinking the same thing, as with all of the lightly scratched wheels... Since they are Winter wheels they don't have to be flawless.

You guys are nuts. 16" steelies and Winterforce tires with stagger. I used a truck size on mine to get it up off the ground. Worked wonders. Here in Buffalo, we get lots of snow. It gets packed into open spokes and wreaks havok.. I got cheap plastic wheel covers for Hubcao heaven. Save the good forged wheels for the next guy....

I ran the same combo as well for several years and sold the setup to another member. Then I got a set of 18x8 2010 Mustang GT OE wheels for cheap and slapped some Goodyear WRT snow/ice tires on, 235/50 front and 255/55 rear.
