    Exactly....T-Type was a sleeper.
    GNX....NOT!
Heck they even called the GNX 'Darth Vader's ride'.

'86 GN was a sleeper in '86 .... before anyone knew that the black Buick sedan was nasty fast.
By '87 the word was out...."Don't mess with a GN!!"

But with minor mods, the Marauder is still a quick car. Mine easily breaks traction in second and sometimes even chirps third. It is a sleeper, cause if you are not paying attention, it looks like a boat on wheels.

These are 14-15 year old cars. Comparing them to a 2018 model year, just not the same.

My '94 Taurus SHO was a sleeper .. who would have thought a SHO could trap 105+ in a 1/4 mile.

Just saying.. many cars are a blank canvas just waiting for the artist to paint a masterpiece.
Both of the post above are right on point--some points being -at that time -the 2003-04 era - there was no , no 300HP+ factory sedans that size anywhere--they were the first...that being said , its the era as mentioned it was the biggest sleeper then....and as mentioned ...a lot of Marauder owners have booster their power considerable....cough....cough ...LOL

Same old Mercury story. Build a good performance car (I'd love to call them great, but let's stay honest) for a couple of years and then move on to something else. There are numerous examples, Eliminator, GTE, various Comets, Marauders (old).

What sets the gen. 4 Marauder apart is that there was a long break between it and any before, that it wasn't shared with another Ford platform, and it was the last one before Mercury died. I think the last two in particular will make it historical in the end. But remember, history takes time.

So what were the last short lived Mercury performance cars before the Marauder?

I say the 1989-90 Cougar XR7 (think Thunderbird Super Coupe)
or the mid 80s vintage Capri RS
    1963 Marauder S-55, Super Marauder 406
Only factory 406 powered Marauder, and earliest built Marauder documented to still exist.

There were several, though off the top-of-my-head ...

    • 1969 Cyclone CJ - Cobra Jet 428
    • 1970 Cougar Eliminator - Boss 302

Quite a list to be including some serious high dollar rarities and even a KIA. 300 horsepower isn't a lot by todays standards and even worse in a 4400lb brick. Who cares? I love mine and even still today, most people think they were only available in black.

That KIA must be a surprise to many drivers. To bad it's called KIA.

    Mmmmmm...GNX...(sound of Homer drooling)

If I HAD to buy a new car today, I would seriously consider the Kia Stinger. Twin turbo V6, installed in the correct orientation...correct-wheel drive...and it's better looking than most new cars.

My primary candidate would be a Challenger of some sort.
