Whats to be gained - Mid pipe swap

Ive seen debates before about this. I am going to lower the MM by cutting one coil and lowering the rear .75"

My current setup is the Stainless work long tubes with cats that bolt up to the stock H-Pipe.

I am debating weather or not to swap out the cats with some 3" stainless pipes to gain about 3/8" ground clearance. I figured while I do that I should replace the midpipe and see what gains I get from going from stock H to 2.5" mandrel bent.

This would leave the stock mufflers on back. Also I have gotten my care tuned with the cats on will removing them set the A/F ratio off my much?

If you increase mid pipe size you will loose bottom end & gain top end power. Unless you add a s/c save the coin for other mods.

3" pipes while N/A will get you nothing.

I would like to throw a question to you. Why go LT and keep the stock 1-7/8" H section?

Do a 2-1/2" midpipe swap then readjust the A/F ratio

I do not know why Stainless works decided to go with a 3" collector on there setup that I bought. the way it is setup is after the catalytic converters it down sizes to a 2.5" pipe and then bolts up to the factory H-pipe.

    Here it is..

The cats on that setup look small enough, why delete them. Does the exhaust hang that low you think it will drag after dropping the car?

They are the lowest hanging part. I think it will make up about 1/4" - 3/8" clearance if I delete them.

I see.... I wonder if an oval cat would have a closer fit? I'm running Magnaflow #94106 high flow's.

It's gonna be loud without the cats

I lowered my car 1.5 with the eibach kit and matched rearend with same drop. I have a 2.5 mid-pipe from the the back of the first Cats. I dont drag anywhere however I dont have longtubes so Im not sure how much lower you exhaust drops before kicking back to exit

The stock mufflers are 1 7/8" inches - so If you do midpipes swap replace the mufflers too.

MBS makes a 2.5" mandrel bent over the axle pipes also.

I got a nice gain from doing my midpipes -- pic in sig.

Can you post a picture of what the SW system looks like where it bolts to factory H pipe?

Cool thanks for posting that. Big difference from stock pipes to SW lead pipes.

I used the copper based gasket maker for the connection to the stock mid pipe.

What did you use to make the gasket between the stock mid pipe and the SW lead pipes?

Used the gaskets supplied from SW with the kit. I set up a group buy for about 16 people 2 years ago, but I don't remember what the gasket material was.

I was bummed when the system was installed, it was louder than I had wanted it to be. Didn't realize headers/high flow cars would make that much noise level increase even keeping stock mufflers. I've been pondering the x-pipe muffler thing for some time now since I really want stealth...
