Description: I'm not sure if the pics are going to show up but here goes.
I installed the 'real' Autometer Oil Pressure Gauge tonight. You'll need:
Autometer Electric Oil Pressure Gauge (0-100 PSI)
A Large Adjustable Wrench or 21mm wrench
A 15 MM wrench
A 9 mm Nut Driver
Teflon Take
Ring Terminals
Wire Cutters/Dykes
Paper Towels
Catch Pan
1/2 Quart of your usual Oil

Start with a cool motor, raise and support the car on suitable jack stands.
Locate the Oil Pressure sender on the housing under the oil filter. Unplug the wiring harness.

Using your Crescent or 21 mm wrench, loosen the factory sender a few turns. THe sender will come off by hand now.

Have a catch pan ready to catch all the oil (maybe half a quart or so)

Cut the plug end of the wire off.

And Strip the wire and Crimp on one of your new ring terminals. Make sure the insulation on the sending unit stays on.

While the oil is draning, you can prepare the new oil pressure sending unit.

Use some teflon tape and attach the adapter to the oil pressure sending unit with a 15mm wrench.

Use your hand and very gently start to thread the new Oil Pressure sending unit into the threads. Tighten until snug, don't overtighten, let the teflon tape do its job.

Now install the ring terminal onto the oil pressure sending unit.

Now install the washer and nut.

You're done under the car.
Lower the car and check your oil level.
Lets go to Part 2 for the remainder of the install!

Pros:
Cons:

The factory oil pressure guage (Auto Meter) is a "real" guage. Just buy the Auto Meter oil pressure sender unit Model # 2242, install, and change to a new terminal ring in the wire/cable.
Cost for new sending unit via Amazon, about $25 to $28.

Pros: Working oil pressure gauge
Cons: Cutting factory wiring is a bad idea

Although I might in the future do a modification to make the factory gauge actually work, I have not done so yet. When I do it I will run a new wire rather than cut into the factory harness.

Pros: You know the real Oil Pressure!
Cons: Numbers are not lit like the factory Gauge

Part two of the Install.
Apply the parking brake.

Turn the Ignition so that you can put the car into \'1\' for manuverability of the gauge pod.
Grab both sides of the pod from the sides and pull out and up. The Clips will release and pop out.

Next, unplug the harness for the oil Sending unit

Do the same for the Volt Meter and Cigarette Lighter

Now the pod is free, go to your work bench with the new gauges and your pod. Use the 9 MM Nut Driver or wrench and remove the retaining nuts for the oil Pressure gauge

Now the gauge should come right out.

Remove the light bulb and cut the wires to the factory \'fake gauge\'

cut close to get more slack to work with on the new gauge.

If you want to change the color of the light, I suggest the green rubber cap on the bulb vs the factory blue. It looks closest to factory, then again, you may like the red lighting.

Now install ring terminals and attach them to the gauge. Black wire to the middle top, red with yellow tracer to the right (switched power) and White with red tracer on the left (signal from oil pressure sending unit)

The gauge is now ready to reinstall into the pod. Use the supplied thumbscrews to install them into the pod.

If you want to install the battery gauge to match, now would be a good time. I did this and it was only 2 seconds more.
Here\'s a backside view of the new Oil Pressure and Volt Meter installed with the harnesses back in place.

Now a front shot.

You\'re done!
Plug the harnesses back in, and reinstall the pod. It should snap right in.

Here\'s a Dark Shot of them Installed.

Oil pressure will read really high when cold (over 75) and drop as it warms up!

Good luck! Send me a PM if you have any questions!!

Wes
