I like the Hollies. "He Ain't Heavy", "Long, Long Road", etc.
"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" has one of the best guitar riffs, except for the Stones "Satisfaction", #1 IMHO..
How can you not like a group that has four guitarists? Sorry for the video commercial.

Clams Casino instrumental mixtape Vol 1 and 2. He's done tracks for A$AP Rocky, Lil B, Mac Miller, Washed Out, The Weeknd and others, but most still don't know who he is. Some compelling, atmospheric hip hop instrumentals. Motivation and I'm God are some of the best, most moving instrumental tracks I've ever heard.
Wax - Continue some of the most clever, non-traditional hip hop I've heard in awhile. Wax talks about topics that affect all of us. We Can't All Be Heroes, Continue, Feels So Good are all working class, poignant songs that almost anyone can relate to. Wax's wordplay is impressive, most of all he's pretty funny and easy to relate to

This lady had a 4-5 octave voice. (I can only wonder what a duet with her and Roy Orbison would have sounded like.) Not bad on the eyes, either.
I don't have any of her albums, but these three songs really tell it all.
Unfortunately, she died at the young age of 47.
Laura Branigan, RIP.
Towards the end of this one, her voice goes off the scale.

If you like the song "Danny Boy", it'll be hard to find a better version than this one.
This singer, who also died way too young, IMHO, had one of the best voices of the R&R era. Second only to Orbison.
He could sing rock, ballads, or even opera, if he wanted to.

Yeah man, crazy. Years ago, I was sitting on a bench at a bus stop when he sat down next to me. He was carrying a box, guarding it like it was gold or some shite. I was like "What's up?", trying to act cool. He started telling me his whole damn life story. People started making fun of his physical features when he was a boy. I was like "You talking about the warts?" and he was like "No. What warts." and said his best friend lost his legs in 'Nam, but he's okay now, runs a shrimp fishing company down south, and how he had a girlfriend who was a ho and was dying, and he was on his way to see his son. Then he offered me a piece of chocolate from the box. I told him bugger off.
The End.

No, never heard this one. Must be very early Roy.
Rumour was that Elvis didn't want to follow Roy on stage when doing live rock shows in the early days. Couldn't match his voice, so the story goes.
Off subject, but I played Little League baseball with the drummer from the Rascals. He pitched, I played third. (I also graduated grammar school with his older sister.)
Here's an Elvis tune that's not the typical Elvis rock song, but it's one of my favorites from the era when his voice matured. Also has some great photos/videos.

I was never a big fan of this group, but one day many years ago, I was watching a TV show, "Homicide, Life On The Streets".
The plot stuck with me.
The wife of a member of a biker group did something she should not have done (I forget what, exactly; she may have ratted out a group member).
By the rules of the gang, the wife needed to be "eliminated".
But, they had a young child, so her biker husband took the hit (suicide) so that she could live and raise their child.
The last scene is in a cemetery. The casket is still above ground, and all the bikers are circled around paying their last respects.
The head detective drives up, gets out of his car (he knows exactly what happened), takes a photo of the family out of his pocket, lays it on the casket, glares at all the bikers, and then gets back in the car and drives away.
In the background, this song is playing.

I just like the way old music brings me back.
I have a CD set of songs that were popular in the early 50's before R&R was born. (I'd hear these songs all the time while sitting in the back of my dad's 48 Buick Super convertible.)
Perry Como, Doris Day, Les Paul/Mary Ford, Nat King Cole etc.
Now, I don't listen to these songs anyway near as much as I listen to my old R&R favorites, but every now and then, I throw them on, and those old memories come back.
That's what's so great about old music.

Seriously?
Post up what you listen to.
This is an open forum, I am always looking for NEW music, usually listening to Sirius XMU for my tastes.
Of course the Genesis I posted up recently was new when I bought it in 1970 something.
Two weeks ago I was at the Deftones in Miami, a month ago the Eels in Atl.
Next month Clutch in Lauderdale.
What demographic is that?
Preach!
I've really broadened my collection thanks to this thread!

Not new, 1978, the year I gradumacated high school but still relevant.
I heard a newer band (Local Natives) do a cover of this Friday live on Sirius XMU and I was compelled to dig this out of the archives.

Reading this thread, I feel like I'm in completely the wrong demographic for owning a Marauder
There's good news for you.
I'm almost twice your age, and I'm still a car nut. So, you, too, can still be a car nut at age 70. (My dad was a car nut also. Genes?)
But, I do find that due to my "advanced years", I'm a lot more comfortable driving my 64 Galaxie and 2003 TBird than I would be driving a new Stingray.
But, I can wish.....
Now, for obvious reasons, I'm determined not to miss any Wildwood old car shows, unless the weather is really, really bad.

sweet! which song? Justin Hayward has such an incredible voice
sent from space
I picked up the new Justin Hayward album.
The more I listen, the more I like it, but there are some things to consider.
After a few, very good new songs, he does a remake of one of my Justin favorites, "Broken Dreams". OK, but the original is better.
Then, the last two songs are remakes of "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" done in a modern dance club style.
Doesn't sound like a Moodies tune at all, but, even with overdone electronics on the vocals, the song grows on you and has a great beat.
But, it is LONG.

Well, I listen to mostly hip hop. Not really stuff you'd hear on the radio much though. I like El-P, Sean Price, Action Bronson, A$AP Rocky, Ab Soul, Childish Gambino, MF Doom, Curren$y, Danny Brown, almost all 80s-90s era hip hop. Also instrumental stuff like Blue Sky Black Death, Clams Casino, Daft Punk, along with some older metal like Metallica, as well as Radiohead, Band of Horses, etc. Come to think of it, none of my car enthusiast friends like the music I like, for the most part :dunno:

very cool. when days go by came out in 2003 it was catchy especially since it was heavily advertised in a car commercial (forget the brand, maybe it was scion...)
anyways hearing DGB in a club on a high end audio system is just sick! there's a thick layer of bass that underlies the whole track. you can only hear this bass on high end systems.
similar to the bass Crystal Method uses in all their tracks

Below is what can best be described as "the opposite ends of the spectrum", but good music, whether it be country, rock/roll, doo wop, jazz, classical, is "good music".
First, here's a solo song from the lead singer of the Moody Blues, Justin Hayward. This man never ceases to amaze me with his use of chords, lyrics, and overall musical ability.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KCUeg54CUI&feature=player_embedded
Now, the opposite end.
This is not a new song/album/video. Probably 20 or more years old.
But the two women singing, especially the blonde lady, hit notes that could probably break a shot glass.

I've got 20 CDs in my CD player on shuffle; right now it's playing Butthole Surfers, "TV Star". Before that was Portishead, "Over"....CD player just shuffled to Armand Van Helden, "Witch Doctor". Wonder what will come up next? Hope it's a Chemical Brothers song...or Bjork.

All this talk about Pink Floyd and Dave Gilmour, In my top ten groups. May I suggest an obscure solo album from 1978. A few cuts,

I'm an old guy; I like old music, but this song/video (which I saw on the Colbert show) is good, and not just because of the brunette. (Yeah, right!)
