Got alot of enjoyment out of the procharger, but time for something new, going to be a very slow drawn out build. Still have everything to do. Rear, engine, trans, fuel system. I will keep you all updated as best as I can as I make progress. Engines at machine shop now. Teksid block std bore 4.6 forged everything fully studded top and bottom. Low compression. 8.5.1 price was right on pistons is why the comp. Is so low, gonna be return fuel system planning on e85 trans will be built. Rear im not sure yet. I have a 05 31 spline rear but may toss that in favor of a 9in we shall see. Oh ya.. and the good stuff. A pair of precision 62mm billet wheel turbos :) have patience!

That's perfect for a tiny 281 cubic inch motor , I think people often forget just how small our motors actually are!

On a twin setup I wouldn't go any bigger than 66mm turbos.

I just got caught up on the build and for the first time ever, I agree with lifespeed. The general rule of thumb when notching a structural piece is a maximum of 1/3 the depth in a steel boxed frame and this is more than 1/2 in cast aluminum.

Was anything added inside the crossmember that we can't see?

Cool. One thing I will mention that I learned when I built a turbo boat engine is the short coupling of hot exhaust for the wastegate causes a mismatch of thermal expansion. Think shorty cobra headers cracking.

To avoid this the wastegate connection is made with Inconel bellows.

More awesome than the final HP numbers will be the INSANE midrange torque and top end pull!
Plus mashing the loud pedal at any normal cruising speed will result in instant tire frying action.....:drive:

Finally decided on an intercooler
Went with the smaller 3󬝮5 treadstone unit. Rated at 1453cfm and 1000hp i was to much cutting involved to fit the big core. I think this will suit me fine! Not mounted yet but fits like a glove and the mounting tabs will even work!

Didn't Gordon/Haggis post about a tilting remote controlled license plate?
It slides out and then tilts up when you activate it.
Otherwise it folds flat and slides back for 'storage'.

Found this cool little option!

Do u think it will even tho my cooler doesn't hang beneath the bumper? I had it before because my procharger intercooler was slightly below my bumper and didnt like seeing it

justbob
05-23-2015, 11:03 AM
It is going to take any air that might have slid under the bumper and up or the air damn under the radiator "might" have thrown north bound into it and immediately whisk it off to the sides I thinks.

But I wouldn't touch anything till you've had time to data log IATs as is. If you need to lower them or are just curious you could always remove it and compare your results or even add a fan kit.

Air flow does some seriously strange things at any given speed!!!

I was really concerned about completely altering my radiator in all aspects. I.E. Size, location, elevation, straight up to now tilted, fan, shroud, all 695 plastic trim pieces that direct flow all around and under it, ECT. And for one of the very very few times in my over complicated life it actually worked, pretty much too well in fact. Pure luck. It was really my only "real" hurdle out of doing this last build.

I had it already doomed as a failed idea but I was at a serious loss of other options besides boxing out the sides where it tilts as my next step. Luckily my mental block paid off...

IATs were the ENTIRE idea behind getting away from roots. Well boredom and the desire to be different played a small part as well. [emoji6]

The plate is removable for car shows and the like. It is an alternative to drilling into the bumper. I think the company is called Big Mikes, they are out in California. PM HaggyBaby for the exact name.

Went with Zacks recommendation and got the cxracing piping kit... im shocked with the quality for the price!! 👍
I ended up having to use 3 90 degree bends on each charge pipe . Theyre surprisingly very short tho! Gonna have a bunch of 2.5 in left tomorrow I'll take these into work and roll a bead on the ends i had to cut.
Now for the 3in inlet pipe. Thats gonna be fun. Things are actually starting to get tight.

I've had alot going on many family issues, my mom passed, now my dad's not doing to well.
I have been working on the car just not as much as I'd like to. I did get the engine assembled, cams degreed. I got the trans back some time ago, it's ready to go in as soon as I installthe engine, I did end up modifying my timing chain tensioners, there have been issues with the ratcheting device holding to much tension on the guides under extreme loads two step trans brake, the ratchet won't allow the tensioners to relax, there are a couple different ways to take care of the concern, I just ground off the 1st or last which ever way u look at it 4 teeth. I'll post pics
