This reminds me of my 300k motor, it starts with good pressure but when it starts falling nothing brings it back up, didn't even respond to revs. Mechanical gauge swapped in, same issue. disassembled the motor, cleaned the heavy sludge out, replaced all timing components. good as new (well not new).

Did mine without removing the pan, was a bit tricky, don't know if it saved any time.

If you're referring to justbob's reply, I'm pretty sure he meant the fuel pump driver module, not the human driver.

Correct. Some people take offense before actual comprehension takes place Bob.

Then comes the snappy comebacks. Gee that hurt...

I read Bob's post and knew exactly what he meant, you take it as an insult?

Your mechanic......you should get a second opinion. Besides, you said you loved them car, so fix it, 3k at the most, still cheaper than a new car.

If it were me I would put a mech gauge on it and test the actual pressure. Def sounds oil pump related, could be a couple things. Personally I would put a new oil pump in it for peace of mind, they are relatively cheap. Pickup tube could be loose or clogged also.

It almost sounds like a clogged fuel filter? Unfortunately I am just guessing.

My oil pump was not bad but I changed it to a Melling M227 this weekend during my timing chain project. FordTechMakuloco does it in a video for a 5.4L Expedition, that's what gave me the confidence to do it. I was terrified of dropping a bolt into the pan but patience prevailed and I avoided the hassle of dropping the pan.

Don't change the oil pump without getting a proper diagnosis. It is a full two days to change out, at least it was for someone who never did it before and was working on jackstands in a driveway.

forgot to mention I changed the pump and pickup which was partially clogged by timing plastic pieces.

I have the car now. It has a bad knock, probably spun a rod bearing.
