    Lincoln LS "service parking brake"

I'm getting a warning "service parking brake".

This is an electronic parking brake setup, and yesterday, the brake would not release when I went into "D".

I shut the car off, restarted it, and the brake came off.

I'd like to have at least a little bit of info before I bring it to the dealer.

    Any words of wisdom?

    Thanks.

Sorry, one of the reasons I got rid of the LS was so many gadgets constantly needing dealership attention. I knew the warranty was about to run out and it was going to get very expensive in a hurry, so it got replaced with Marauder #2.
Thanks to Darrin @ BC Automotive:
$1800 and it was worse than when he started!

Understood, FordNut, but I enjoy driving this car.

Took a ride through the PA Poconos last week and had a great time using the SST up/down the hills, and, as an LS8 Sport, the car corners great. (Much more fun than my 2003 TBird when it comes to twisting roads.)

Nothing on the market, at this time, would cause me to dump it.

The parking brake module is very sensitive to RF interference. There are two common causes one is a failing coil pack or a failing coolant control valve. At the dealership we refer to these cars as Lincoln's Lucifer Sedan sell it

How does a cooling control valve impact the electronic brake?

The car hasn't been perfect (what car is?), but selling is not an option.

The coolant control valve is an electronic motor. Like all things electrical the creates some type of radio frequency. the EPB(electronic parking brake module) is very sensitive to RF(radio frequency) interference. The coils or the or coolant valve will feed RF interference to the CAN network which the EPB is on. As a result the EPB will set codes and lights because it doesn't know how to process the corrupt info.

How does that cause the electronic brake to malfunction, and work correctly just by turning the car off and restarting?

I think I explained it pretty well in the post before, If you cant understand that I don't know how else to explain it sorry. Turning the car off then on basically resets the epb it will operate normally until the next occurrence. This problem is well documented in a Ford technical service bulletin

OK, now I know more than I did before.

Where can I read the tech bulletin?

Wow, this is informational! I own an LS as well. I also have limited knowledge of CAN buses in the equipment I work on. This is good information to know when I end up having to troubleshoot the car down the road.

jerrym3, some CAN buses can be susceptible to noise...
