Just bought 2 new fuel pumps, an fittings, an fuel line, Y-block, bulkhead assembly for the fuel hat to wire the pumps separately, check valve for the fuel line from the second pump and a Honeywell 5 psi pressure switch to set up my second pump up for boost activation. Started installing my KillerChiller and built brackets for my transmission cooler and fan.

Pulled the SB out, let him warm up for 10 min, dusted, wiped down, washed the Windows, and cruised the beast 97 freeway miles into and out of Livermore.

Car settles right in at 84-94 mph, 2200-2600 rpm. Love that I didn't do 4:10s...

this was after reading some old CV vs Honda article in R&T... what they don't compare is a 2003 Honda Accord with xx,xxx vs a Mercury Marauder w xx,xxx miles. I had done the drive with one each (both) in the same week. I will NEVER drive the Honda on this trip AGAIN, as the MM was at home in its' environment.

Only iss is the cleaning needed afterward. I killed 4,200 flying bugs.

I like it a lot....smooth and quiet, handles really well with the magnetic shocks, especially in 'Sport' mode. 6 speed automatic downshifts nicely when braking, 23 - 28 MPG....
and when you punch it, it moves!

Fusion Sport is just over a year old and already has more miles on it than the 16-1/2 year old Marauder. 20,800 vs 18,600!

Oh...I forgot to mention: It has heated and cooled seats....first car I've owned with cooled seats...they are awesome!

Spent the last week doing some major garage organizing. Finally made room to bring the marauder inside. Put it up on stands and dropped the trans pan. Had lost 3rd and 4th gear. Was hoping for broken OD snap ring, looks like that isn't the case. Decent amount of metal in the pan.

Headlights didn't come on. Had to bring it in by fog lights. I'll add LCM upgrade to the list.
Other things I noticed under the car:
Drivers spring cracked, bottom coil on the seat
Both upper ball joint boots dry rotted and torn
2 nuts rusted off flanges at h pipe, somehow not leaking yet
Suncore air springs, guess they were replaced already?

Looks like the marauder isn't making Carlisle. :(
Better start cleaning the tortoise.

A Robin decided the DS mirror on my Mazda was a perfect place for him to roost, strut his stuff, admire himself in the mirror and mostly crap. A LOT. Every day I walked out in the morning to find the entire mirror, glass and door covered in it.
My solution was to tie a plastic bag over the mirror. So he just used the other side.....

Hello everybody...

I did not "do" anything to my 25K '04 DTR today but I thought a lot about something I will do soon.
I want to put diamondback redline nittos on my marauder (will have the look of my GTOs/Corvettes in the 60's/70's...always liked that look) but am still puzzled about what sizes to buy.
I want to keep the stock wheels...and I do not want any problems with traction control codes or otherwise...I read that some members have 255/45/18 on the front instead of the 235/50/18 and others have either 265/50/18 or 295/45/18 instead of the 245/55/18. I would like the larger sizes of course but am concerned about my wife driving the car at times and a warning light or code light comes on the dash...she would be most upset.
So I have not made any concrete decisions yet...any further suggestions.

Thanks for always having great information and advice when I needed it over the years.

Not that my 4.0L Ranger is going anywhere anytime soon - I recall around 10 or so years ago someone here in the states marketed a roots blower for the 4.0L - the stuff dreams are made of LOL!!!!:oNo I haven't. Drove the 2.7 and 3.5 back to back though. Both with 3.55 gears. Didn't notice much of a difference. I do like the 10 speed auto.

Ditched the crappy Crown Vic tune and got Marty's tune in my car over the weekend. Amazing customer service and badass tune! Car drives amazing now. No more painful slamming 1-2 shifts under light throttle and perfect WOT shifts.

Now for the 4.10's...

Ugh, guess it's repair time for my ole girl... 152,000 miles... Alternator went crazy last night, so I tried to turn on the over head console lights to see why all of the dash lights went out... the button breaks off and goes up inside the console leaving the light on constantly... been having a belt squeal upon start up for a while now, look into that and the water pump is leaking too... wiper blades are shot too... Guess what all I'm doing today!!!

My car has become acclimated to 93 EO after a bottle of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner and it's very first fuel filter change ever. Seriously questioning whether I should mod it or not. Squirted the front passenger door hinges today - maybe the first time they've been lubed ever!?!? Climate Control System cools the car quickly. Many admiring looks from others who know what this car is.

Hand washed 3 weeks worth of tree sap and pollen off of my excursion and sho. Very jealous of my neighbors pole barns. Wish all my stuff fit inside.
Last week the excursion developed a intermittent misfire, no cel. Had time to play with it yesterday, fuel pressure was good, cleaned the iac, no vacuum leaks. Contribution test showed neg value on #4 only. Pulled the coil and plug, plug was clean(only has about 5k on it). Coil is aftermarket, swapped for spare motorcraft and tadaa! No more misfires!
Priced coils from Ford this morning, $55 and change each even with my stepfather's employee price.
$55 x 10= maybe I won't replace them all preemptively.

Oh good grief, where do I start?

Mustang:

Of course, from when I picked up my Mustang at the garage I patronize earlier today. Noticed within the last couple of weeks a noise that sounds like an axle bearing/wheel bearing going bad - can hear it over the radio at 35-40 mph. Tech/Owner drove it home and back overnight and stated that it was just 'tire noise'. I drive my vehicles on a regular basis and know the difference. Checked driver's power seat on a whim and the fuse has apparently blown again - second time this year. Back to the dealer tomorrow for another pink $5 'high current' fuse.

*************************

Marauder:

Removed airbox completely for the first time. Trash and sand in the plastic tray under the air pump. Cleaned (vacuumed) out the trash and sand (as much as possible) and drilled three 7/16" holes using an extended length drill bit. Apparently water and trash were collecting there.

Attempted to install the newly acquired K&N CAI - inadequate fasteners included with the kit. Fasteners included for the air suspension compressor-muffler relocation and the MAF sensor relocation are too short. Had one for the muffler on-hand but not for the MAF sensor - pick'em up tomorrow. Remaining fasteners may be inadequate - too soon to tell.

****************************** **

Not having any luck at the moment finding someone locally who will do the J-mod/tail shaft lube modifications or the rear cylinder head cooling modifications.

Today I kicked mine in the tailpipe. New engine sounds pissed offf like it wants to run formula one. Trans won’t go into reverse. Hit the tea brake burton when the shifter is in R, nothing. Wired like it’s supposed to. Unplugged everything, measured resistance coming off the reverse solenoid. Grounded. Grrrrrr. I just put all that tranny fluid in and have to drain it

Finally installed my 5th transmission. :(
4th transmission in the last 7k miles. :(
3rd one in 2 years. :(
I've driven it 191 miles since 2011; which is why I really haven't been on here. It makes me upset sometimes. :(
But on the upside, it only has 58k on it. :(

Maybe I'll get to drive it next week. :(

Yesterday, I was sitting in traffic with my nephew, when all of a sudden the car gave off a loud bang! Instinctively, I exclaimed "What the **** was that??".
Started hearing and intermittent, short-lived clacking sound, loud af! Pulled over, shut 'er off, popped the hood and had a looksee. Nothing glaringly obvious. Fire it back up, wait for the noise - started thinking timing chain guides. Not too serious, let's ignore and deal with it later.
Get back into traffic (we had the Caribana parade here yesterday, so every road in the southern half of the city was clogged), get halfway to the next light when I notice the coolant temperature climbing. Okay, now we have a real problem.
Pull over again, pop the hood. Let it run while watching. Put my hand on the fan shroud, and voilá... distinct vibration sync'ed with the clacking noise. **** it down. Peer through the gap between the fan shroud and the top of the rad, while giving 'er the reach around. Spin it until I see what looks like a crack on the outer ring of the fan blade. Confirm. Then, pause to figure out what to do. Patch it or park it and deal with it later.
There's a school parking lot with shade right near where we pulled over, so I move the car over there. With a close look, realize only 2 bolts hold the fan and shroud in place, and luckily they're 5/16" or maybe 10 mm... idk, but I carry a 5/16" for hose clamps, and that does the trick, for the fan shroud mounting bolts as well as the coolant expansion tank and power steering reservoir - thank you Ford!
Next question is how to remove the shroud from the engine bay without disconnecting the very hot coolant hoses... lifting straight out doesn't work, but rotating the shroud - which is rectangular, not square - does, albeit with some finaggling around the expansion tank return hose.
Got the shroud out. Place it on the engine, plug it back in and test to verify. Yep. Also, noticed wear on the fan blade ring on one side of the crack, where it was striking the shroud.
Remove the fan blade from the motor with a hammer-wrench and aformentioned nut-driver.
Pull out my 20 year old roll of Nascar-grade duct tape, grab a golf course pencil, wrap it tightly around the crack (to add rigidity), re-attach the fan blade and give 'er another test. Starts off okay, but returns to the loud af clacking within a few minutes.
Remove and inspect. The mass of the pencil was too great, at high fan rpms deforming the tape and pushing outwards into the shroud.
Take 2: duct tape alone, no stiffening material. This works much better.
Re-install shroud, and get back on our way. Clacking continues, but is much much quieter, and the engine does not overheat. Arrive at our destination, none the worse for some grime on my hands and face (it was 30 Celsius yesterday).

Incorrect. You guys need a welder and someone who knows how to use it.

The biggest surprise was the napa muffler is actually stainless.

Sunday - Replaced the cooling fans in the wife's Charger. The ring around one fan split causing a very loud clicking noise. Ordered new assembly from Rock Auto (used 5% off), around $100.00 with shipping. Old one came out with no problem - 2 bolts, was a B***h getting new one in because the motors are about a 1/2 inch taller.

Changed the oil on the Marauder and fixed parking brake release handle. Replaced the Marauder's battery last Monday. Got 87 months out of a 52 month DieHard battery. Replaced with another DieHard.

So, you're saying it didn't come from the evaporator? That would be the component closest to the cabin.

So, you're saying it didn't come from the evaporator? That would be the component closest to the cabin.Once upon a time, the accumulator rusted through and had to be replaced. Within a couple weeks the evaporator ruptured and leaked everything out. A recharge was attempted but it all leaked out through the vents within an hour or two. That was seven years ago and the AC system hasn't been touched or operated since. I have plans to completely replace the AC, but I'm too lazy to get the parts.

I suppose maybe then that some refrigerant could have remained in the system in liquid form and a hole rusted through and allowed a leak at an interesting moment. So long as whatever it was isn't actually important to the operation of the car, guess I don't really care. It's just that it looked like whatever was leaked onto an already existing oil leak I still need to fix.

While trying to locate the source of a fluid leak near the back of the engine, I discovered a pair of wires whose insulation had completely vanished for about a 2-inch length, right near a connector. As best I can figure, this connects the knock sensor to the engine harness. The missing insulation was on the sensor side of the connection, andthe wires were completely wrapped around themselves, creating a short circuit.
My car has had an annoying ping for s while now - I tried many things to solve it, from replacing hoses with potential air leaks to the intake, to returning the tune to stock, but the ping would not go away. After getting to the back of the engine and reinsulating the two wires (with heak shrink tubing and some tape), I no longer hear the dreaded ping :-)

No pics though.

This week I had to replace a cracked fan blade. Ford doesn't sell just the fan blade, but only the entire fan and shroud assembly. So, I had to go to a wrecker. Problem is, my car wouldn't get that far without overheating, so I had to patch the existing blade. Here are my attempts:

1. This is after removing the duct tape I used to get home in the first place. The duct tape lasted for about 50 kms of driving, or about an hour of city driving.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180810/8d11adfe8c16f1ee1d7d70c2ffe542 de.jpg

2. Epoxy putty. I've used this stuff before with great success. But, never on a rotating assembly. Passed my smoke test (plug it in and let it run for a bit). Failed within a minute of putting it all back together :-(

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180810/df707140da3533cb84b673770f79fa dc.jpg
Even added a counterbalance opposite the repair to keep it running smoothly.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180810/631ce95d6133a54eed19a602746065 c2.jpg

3. Zip ties. These things are usually wuite resilient. But they fail catastrophically when they decide to go. These survived the smoke test, reinstallation and a drive around the block, but failed along the way home.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180810/1866e13c30eba8fae0035b405c762c 95.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180810/d874beae1a5322829d7ffe22bf3ece 06.jpg

4. Fishing line and epoxy. Bingo! We have a winner. Threading the line took about half an hour, so it was the most labour-intensive option, but it passed all the tests, and I was able to get to the wrecker and back home with a replacement part. Round trip was 120 kms or so, with some traffic on the way.

Unloaded the trunk from last road trip. Vacuumed it out, and since I was already hot n sweaty,, I detailed the trunk. Completely empty, It I is a massive thing of beauty!

To get my shop vac, I had to back out the SB, and I started wondering what the heck was in this huge box that was safely stacked on top, nestled deep so no teenager could get to it. It has three "fragile" stickers. I dug it out and found a 9.8 out of 10 (could be new) trunk pack w doors that I didn't know was there!

Knowing it couldn't be true, I quickly double checked both MMs trunks as I figured I may have removed one for some reason a year or two ago, but they too had thier own new trunk packs installed!

So I installed the new trunk pack into the detailed trunk of the Sport! It was so pretty (too pretty actually), I then cut a perfectly sized (2.5 by 3ft or so) piece of fresh cardboard to cover and protect the new carpeted doors and trunk floor.

Basically, I regained 8 cubic feet of garage space, found a new trunk pack, and a cut a perfect fittied piece of cardboard.

I was/am so happy: like an 8 year old boy on Christmas morning!

PS the cardboard already saved they day as later I helped mom carry a bunch of sharp cornered, sharp edged, art frames accross town, and I know they (or the metal hangers on back) would have snagged the carpet door felt on its first day/maiden voyage!

One brief stumble today a few miles from the hotel in Hiram. Car ran flawlessly the rest of the 230 mile trip. Seems to run even better with each new driving cycle. First day back to school in the morning for my granddaughters. They will arrive in the Marauder.

Mercury Marauder Certificate arrived today from Ford Show Parts. Opened package today I received from Ambitious1 containing a like new 2004 Marauder Interactive Owner Experience CD. Checked Canada Post Tracking and the package containing the custom valve stem caps shipped this past monday by Mercury 2003LSE isn’t scheduled to arrive before the 29th.

I opened two boxes that I couldn't remember what was in them. Both had unused Marauder bras.

Could always staple a few together and make a BBQ grill mat to catch grease and whatnot? Or lay them out in the doghouse for carpet? No more trip hazard.

Walked past it about 500 times while grabbing tools and parts from the garage. Trying to finish a customer's truck in the driveway.
Someday I'll have time to put my trans in.

Imagine taking one out, putting another in for measurements than taking it out again to put the torque converter in only to finally have to put it back in all on your back.

I went to start the car to move it so I could get the mower out of the garage. It did that thing where it almost starts, but you didn't quite hold the key long enough. Problem is there was a sickening noise when it stopped. Like an idiot who's not thinking straight 'cause it's hotter than hell out, I go to restart it. It spins real fast, like it has no compression.

I think the timing chain let go...

Lol I’m probably a little younger so pain reliever needed yet,. The Marauder is the first car I’ve ever really worked on and it quickly made me want a lift to make life a lot easier.

Thought about wiping the dust off it. Was in the garage anyway, had to hook up my welder/generator to run the house because the power is out. Again. Maybe someday JCP&L will actually have their subcontractors cut down dead trees before they fall on the wires.
Or not.
At least the cable still works.

Possibility MyBlackBeasts since it still doesn't work for me either and I've tried 3 different web browsers.

FBM, is that a utube mobile link?

I remember a thread a few years ago where the poster was adding a UT link off his phone and it didn't work for those trying to view on a PC.
